Health Insurance For Substitute Teachers - Franklin Special School District has hired staffing agency StaffEZ to administer the district's substitute teacher studies, allowing substitutes to qualify for health insurance.
According to Leslie Duke, FSSD's director of human resources, substitutes can receive benefits through StaffEZ as long as they maintain good standing with the organization.

"With the change to StaffEZ, subs are allowed to work without restrictions and are eligible for benefits as long as they maintain an active status with StaffEZ in their role," Duke said.
Duke updated the FSSD Board of Education at its monthly meeting last week on the transition, which will continue through July and August.
Between March 2019 and May 2019, the FSSD estimated that 80 substitutes were actively employed. However, after the implementation of the same group last week, 141 applications were filled by StaffEZ for FSSD replacement positions.
Duke told the school board that the partnership with StaffEZ has improved the process of assigning substitutes for daily refills.

About half of the states, including Florida and Georgia, only require substitutes to have a high school diploma, according to information from Kelly Education.
In Downers Grove, Ill., North High School principal Janice Schwarze expects a shortage this year, even though her district expects students to go to school some days, and teach others from home. .
