I'm not sure if future journeys will plunge them into unimaginable horror as alleged violence is threatened by organizers of the strike, targeting every driver on the road in the next 10 days.

The young father said he believes solving the problem "requires government coordination between local and foreign drivers - like in an industry where locals make up 80 percent and foreigners 20 percent."

While the ATDF claimed the protest was due to the fact that 80 per cent of drivers employed by SA companies were foreigners working in SA, others disputed this. The National Road Freight and Logistics Industry Bargaining Council told IOL that in fact 84.66% of driving jobs go to South Africans. However, the commission's data only represents those companies that ship for profit or on behalf of third parties, not those that ship their own products. In 1995, at the age of 21, Scott founded Siyaduma Auto Ferriers, which he says was South Africa's first female-owned logistics company. This was shortly after the country gained democracy and women were unheard of in the industry. But she was an entrepreneur long before that. At the age of 18, Scott started a company and sold it for just enough money to go to the US to work for two years.
"When I was there, during the sanctions period in South Africa, I experienced services that I had not seen before, such as delivery services. "These are services that we have never seen in the country, especially where I grew up," Scott said. She returned home and worked at a car rental company for three months, during which time she saw gaps in the market. The companies she works for move cars based on reservations, so she sees this as an opportunity to provide drivers for those companies.
She said these rental companies either use labor brokers who will just return the car, or they use large car transporters who load the car onto trailers that are limited to 80 kilometers per hour, and there is no difference between the two.
Her clients no longer want to work with labor brokers because there is no vetting process - licensed drivers can drive with little or no criminal record checks.

"The big organizations then operated like a cartel and ignored me until they couldn't anymore, and they were all men and it didn't matter to them that I was a woman. There was no charter for the development of women in 1998; no one is doing anything to help women in this business,” she said.
The bottom line for her is that she is doing just as well as the last time she gave birth. Any damaged vehicle is an absolute personal failure, so she has to make sure everything is perfect.
However, while passenger car technology advances, it has to find a new market, and truck technology has not evolved as much.
"Since about 1999, I switched to the trucking side and offered the same service solution for trucking, and the industry has never seen turnaround times like this," she said.
