You will be interested to note that some operators that I would have recommended 20 years ago do not make my recommendation list today.

Shaffer Trucking - They have 6-8 weeks of on-track training with a mentor. Week 1 is 8 hours of team driving conditions.
FedEx Ground - Not well known but definitely worth checking out. FedEx Ground Contractors will hire and train new CDL drivers. Most of the work is team work, but there are also many solo runs and day runs. We found the salary range for these drivers to be between $85,000 and $98,000 per year. This is from Columbus, Ohio.
They use current model equipment, always well maintained. They are well regarded for being one of the best trucking companies with paid training.
Maverick is truly a mega carrier. However, I personally rate them above others because they are well managed carriers.
