2019 is off to a wet start as a cold, active pattern develops across the US Midwest. January, February and March saw above average precipitation and contributed a healthy portion to the snowfall totals for the second half of the 2018-19 season. After a slightly below average April, May saw the highest rainfall of the year at 3.23 inches. Meteorologically, May and July are Denver's wettest months of the year, so it's not unusual for May 2019 to be the monthly winner in the precipitation category. With the transition to the warm season in June and July, precipitation reached a two-month average with precipitation totals slightly above the respective monthly averages. After two significant winter events in October and November, December was drier than average as changes in the Northern Hemisphere kept dry high pressure over the western United States through the end of the year.
