In 1962, eight years after Opportunity Village opened its doors, they received a business license to open a thrift store and help pay the teacher's salary and continue their mission.
Now, more than 60 years later, funds raised at the Village Thrift Shop go directly to programs and services for adults with intellectual disabilities. It now serves as a training center for the current Village of Opportunity service for people interested in retail skills. The Thrift Shop is the organization's oldest business and has a longstanding reputation for providing gently used items of the highest quality.
Opportunity Village Thrift Store partners with the World Market Center and many local fairs to graciously donate truckloads of the latest home decor, furniture and more after the show. These new products are in high demand when they are available to our customers and they are moving fast.

A savvy group of gearheads recently spent four days in Southern Nevada having a blast at hot rods while helping raise funds for Opportunity Village.
In what turned out to be the perfect combination, members of the Southern California Viper Club united their supercars at the Desert 215 Superstore for a fundraiser.
The event culminated in a dinner at Ricardo's Mexican Restaurant headlined by Desert 215 Superstore owner John Grant and proved to be the perfect advertisement. It attracted more than 40 Vipers and many people looking for a car show, great food and a chance to help the Village of Opportunity.

Grant, a Village of Opportunity board member, is constantly working to find ways to help the nonprofit, which has four campuses in Southern Nevada.
Southwest Valley Sales has an amazing show promoting Village Chance, which received a check for $5,000 from a fundraiser that ended a few hundred dollars before the lights went out.
"We had a good time," said Ken Alker, a 51-year-old resident of Santa Barbara, California. "We go to Pahrump to race at the Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch. We go that weekend twice a year."
"Driving the Viper creates a real adrenaline rush on the track," he said. "It's a great way to de-stress life."

Las Vegas High School students, part of the JAG Nevada (Jobs for America's Graduates - Nevada) program, visited the Opportunity Village and presented the organization with a $500 check. Opportunity Village customers and President and CEO Bob Brown were on hand to accept checks from students and JAG Nevada Program and Director of Information Management Michele Cody.
"JAG students receive support from the community throughout the year to help them find their way to graduation and prepare them for careers after high school," said Michele Cody. "This time they decided they wanted to give back to their community, so they chose Opportunity Village to thank them for all they do and the families they help every day."
The donation comes from a "pay it forward" lesson that Las Vegas High School JAG specialist Christina Sa taught her students about giving back on a personal level. The purpose of this process was to teach community awareness and the importance of giving back to their community.
