Independent Living Program For Young Adults - Impact Living Services (ILS) provides comprehensive support services to care for young people ages 17-21. ILS has apartments in Lynchburg, Roanoke, Richmond, Fairfax, Fredericksburg, and Harrisonburg. ILS promotes interdependence as a core belief in helping young people achieve their educational, career, and financial goals. Interdependence is an idea of "interdependence between things" (i.e., society, friends, staff, DSS, and advisors). Young people are most successful when they achieve a lifetime of success through these various avenues. ILS promotes the creation of lasting relationships and services for the youth in the program.
Wes graduated from James Madison University in 2007 with a BA in Sociology. He began his career working for the City of Roanoke's Department of Social Services, specifically with the foster care department and working with older teens. Wes now has more than ten years of experience working with teens in the foster care system, whether in foster homes or independent living arrangements, and he embraces the joys and challenges of working with such a diverse and deserving population.
Independent Living Program For Young Adults
Samantha is a 2012 graduate of James Madison University with a degree in Public Health Education. She completed the JMU Paralegal Certificate Program in 2017. Samantha worked in foster care before joining the ILS corporate team as a Case Manager (2017). She became Harrisonburg Site Superintendent in 2018 and assumed the position of Program Director for IL (Area N) in May 2020. She has ten years of combined experience working with social services, families, children and youth at risk and aging out of the system. Her passion for working with young people drives her work.
Directions In Independent Living, Inc
Megan graduated from Ferrum College in 2012. She has over a decade of experience working with at-risk youth in the Roanoke Valley. Megan helped youth with affective disorders and autism in a private day school setting before beginning her social work career in the Roanoke City Department of Social Services. She has worked with young people in foster care, and has focused on working with young people who are getting older outside of foster care. Megan helped her LDSS transition from the Independent Living Program in Virginia to what is practiced now: the Fostering Futures Program. Megan was previously Site Superintendent of the Roanoke Site from September 2020 through March 2022. Megan has continued her ten years of experience working with youth and young adults as they age outside of the Virginia Care system. She finds her true passion in helping young people break the cycle of poverty and trauma.
Carissa the Fairfax webmaster is currently working towards her master's degree in social work at George Mason University. She started on Impact in January 2019 and is a webmaster at Fairfax of Independent Living. She has been working in the field of social work since 2019 and combines her knowledge of macro practice with the needs of micro practice. Her desire is not just to make an impact on young people, but to see them become leaders and transform their communities. She specializes in counseling young people ages 8-18 and practices trust-based relationship intervention. Currently offering counseling at a rate of $35 an hour through May 2023.
This Hampton Roads Asiana site supervisor has a BA and MA in Social Work from Radford University. She began her social work career at the New River Valley Board of Community Services (NRVCS) where she worked in various positions such as Parent Coach, In-Home Intensive Worker, Live-In Provider, Family Physician, and Behavioral Specialist. Asiana then moved to the Floyd County Department of Social Services where she worked as a family services specialist working in the foster care unit and in the home. In 2020, she moved to the Hampton Roads area to be closer to family and began working as a permanent worker and freelance living coordinator. Asiana joined the Impact team in August 2022 as a Site Supervisor. She is passionate about helping young people become self-sufficient and develop into future leaders in society.
Harrisonburg Site Supervisor Becky has a BA in Family and Consumer Sciences from Bridgewater College. She started her career as a high school teacher but moved into the non-profit world and worked at Big Brothers Big Sisters for 7 1/2 years. After that, Becky started out in the independent life business in Charlottesville, but was looking for something closer to family here in Harrisonburg. She started at Impact in December 2021 as a Case Manager and then accepted the position of Site Supervisor in May 2022. Becky feels she can utilize her teaching skills and nonprofit background in a unique way into independent living.
Youth/young Adult Group Residence — Centerboard
Dakota has a Bachelor of Science. in Psychology at Liberty University. He is currently pursuing his master's degree in Business Administration. Dakota joined Impact in January 2021 as a trainee. Since then, Dakota has accepted the current position of webmaster. Dakota is new to the field, but she enjoys working with teens to help them develop life skills to succeed on their own!
Fredericksburg Site Supervisor Lashona earned her BA in Sociology with a minor in Psychology at York Community College. She is currently pursuing her master's degree in Business Administration. She began her social work career working with individuals with intellectual development disabilities and has since worked with different populations in the field of social work. Lashona became part of the Impact Life Services team in 2021. In October 2022, Lashona started working in the position of Site Supervisor.
The Richmond Lashay webmaster has a BA in Social Work from Mary Baldwin University. She began her career in social work at a private agency working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She then worked for two years in the Foster Care Unit as a Family Services Specialist at Harrisonburg Rockingham Social Services. LaShay accepted the position of Onsite Status Manager at Impact in June 2020. In October 2021, LaShay accepted the position of Site Supervisor.
Roanoke Site Supervisor Courtney received a BA in Social Work with a minor in Psychology from Radford University in 2021. Courtney joined Impact Living Services as an intern in January 2021 on the Independent Living Program. Since then, Courtney has accepted the position of Clinical Assistant in May 2021 and the position of Onsite Case Manager in September 2021. In September 2022, Courtney has accepted the position of IL Roanoke- District Vue Site Superintendent. You enjoy networking with individual young people to define their goals and confidently help them achieve their aspirations. Courtney is passionate about working with young people in a variety of situations to successfully prepare them for independence.

Roanoke site supervisor Beth graduated from Meredith College in 2003 with a BA in Psychology. She began her career in non-profit fundraising before earning her master's degree in Human Services - Marriage and Family Counseling from Liberty University in 2012. To join Impact as Roanoke Site Superintendent at The Orchards in October 2022. Beth enjoys working with and watching young people They become more confident as they develop the skills needed to become independent. Young people in their care from the age of 17 - 21. Our Harrisonburg Program offers a safe and secure living environment supported by a variety of educational support programs and staff input.
We strive to help participants develop necessary life skills, pursue educational opportunities, and obtain job assistance. A case management service is provided to further assist our tenants in securing any additional support that may be required for a successful transition to independent living.
The Braley & Thompson Independent Living Program serves young people in the Harrisonburg area. While living in their family's home, apartment or dormitory, young people can participate in our Community Independent Living Program. This support framework provides young people with the skills and tools to successfully achieve their independent living goals and integrate into society.
Our staff advise young people on topics including budgeting, life skills training, education and employment. Training is customized to meet the needs of each client and is accessible to staff 24/7.
A Systems Approach To Youth And Young Adult Homelessness In America
In addition, we offer a shortened Independent Living Curriculum course to be completed in ten weeks. Our curriculum course covers the essentials of independent living and includes practical experience and personal guidance from a Professional Life Skills Coach to meet each client's specific needs.
Braley & Thompson offers this program to young people between the ages of 17 and 21. Offered in the Roanoke area, this program provides a safe and secure environment and a variety of valuable supports to help participants develop life skills, pursue educational opportunities, and secure employment assistance.
