Charger For Macbook Pro 16 Inch - There's good news and bad news about the new 16-inch MacBook Pro charger. The good news is that they are the first on the market to introduce a new high-power charging standard that enables USB chargers to exceed 100 watts for the first time.
The bad news is that the technology is so new that there is no compatible USB-C cable yet.
Charger For Macbook Pro 16 Inch
When the USB-C standards were developed, there was a specific standard for charging, known as USB-C Power Delivery (PD). This allows up to 100 watts of power to be delivered via USB-C cables.

It was fine at the time, but with high-powered laptops on the way, more power was needed. A new standard has been developed to support power delivery of up to 240W, and Apple has been instrumental in driving this. This new standard is known as USB PD 3.1 Extended Power Range (EPR). It supplies up to 48 volts at 5 amps, supporting anything up to 240 watts.
USB PD 3.1 EPR standard, which - as far as I can see - is the first charger on the market to do so. Apple's implementation is limited to 28v.
I hope it's a USB PD 3.1 EPR (world's first) charger, using the first of the new voltage levels, 28V at 5A. Apple has been instrumental in suggesting new 28V, 36V, and 48V voltage levels for USB workgroups, so it makes sense that they plan to launch the app first. However, sea-to-sea cables are not rated at the EPR level. Apple uses some cables for MagSafe.
This means that right now you can't fully charge your 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro through one of the USB-C ports. However, Apple supports EPR through its new USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable. That means you can get full power—with a 30-minute charge at 50%—with the MagSafe cable.

Access is temporary. USB-C to USB-C EPR cables are in the works, and once they're available, you'll be able to use them with the 16-inch MBP charger.

With the debut of the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, Apple has brought fast-charging capability to Macs for the first time, allowing users to charge laptop batteries up to 50% in just 30 minutes.
But there's a difference between models with this feature that Apple doesn't really mention. Both models can charge via Thunderbolt or MagSafe, with only the 14-inch MacBook Pro offering fast charging via a USB-C/Thunderbolt 4 port in addition to MagSafe.

In contrast, the 16-inch MacBook Pro is limited to fast charging via the MagSafe port. The Thunderbolt 4 ports are capable of charging at a maximum of 100W, and the 16-inch MacBook Pro uses a 140W power adapter, so it can't claim to be faster than fast charging. Meanwhile, the 14-inch model uses a 67W power adapter for an 8-core device and a 96W power adapter for a 10-core device, so it doesn't quite hit the TB4's maximum power delivery.
This limitation on the 16-inch MacBook Pro likely won't be much of a problem for most users, as the MagSafe' 3 port is designed for charging only and won't be turned on for any other reason. However, the difference between the two seems worth highlighting because of the different cable/dock setups potential owners might envision for their workflow.
The new MacBook Pro models can be ordered now, starting at $1,999 for the 14-inch model and $2,499 for the 16-inch model. The laptops will begin shipping to consumers and launch in stores on Tuesday, October 26.
