We typically use professional grade lacquer because it has a nice feel and is silky smooth, which is what cabinet makers use. We think it's the best hands-free cabinet paint around (although there are some great water-based options out there, too). Nothing else matches the look and feel of lacquered cabinets, in any color or gloss. But spray finishes, especially lacquers, can be difficult to master. Incorrect pressure or setting on the spray gun, incorrect distance you placed the spray head from the surface, or incorrect speed with which you moved your arm. . . All of these things can cause paint to sag, drip, or stay too thin to cover well or last long. Every kitchen is different, of course, but for the most part, professional painters like us follow these steps when painting cabinets: 1. We clean up your kitchen by removing cabinet doors and drawer fronts. .
We removed all hardware such as drawer pulls and door handles. Then we take out or remove the cabinet doors and remove the hinges. Each individual door hinge is marked so we can return each one to its correct place when reassembling.

You can see that our painters are beginning to "mask" the kitchen, covering non-cabinet areas like walls, ceilings, and countertops, but more on that later!
Question: What about the interior? Should I empty the inside of my kitchen cabinets first? The answer: it depends!
Is the inside of your kitchen or bathroom cabinets light wood with a clear top coat, or is it painted a solid color, or is it likely dark stained? If they have a clear top coat, like in the kitchen photo above, it's usually left as is. (Most new cabinets come this way.) In this case, we will paint the exterior but not the interior of your cabinets. This means you can leave any items in there, like dishes, because we'll cover them with plastic to keep them from splashing. Less work for you!
However, if your cabinet interiors are stained dark or previously painted a solid color, the best design option is to paint the cabinets inside and out. In this case, everything must have come out of the cupboards and drawers before our arrival.

We then remove the drawer fronts, if any. Fronts are sometimes designed to easily unscrew from drawer "boxes", which is the ideal scenario. We remove them and leave the boxes where they are (which means you can leave things like cutlery inside the drawers throughout the process). Knockdown, we pull out the drawers, hide the drawer boxes to protect them from paint, and stack them all up to prepare for painting.

Reasons You Should Paint Your Kitchen Cabinets — Cabinet Painting
We will always paint the sides of your doors, the sides of your drawer front trim, the outside of your cabinet bases, and the frames themselves (whether or not we paint the inside). It's a classic DIY or hobbyist move to leave the doors hanging in place and not have to remove all the pieces and label the hinges. Or try finding a place in your house to straighten all the cabinet doors so you can paint one side, then wait until they're dry enough so you can flip them over and paint the backs. . . To the point of nausea, for multiple layers. Also, trying to paint both sides of the doors and drawer fronts while they are still in place is very difficult, and it is almost impossible to get an even result without painting over the hinges or leaving brush strokes on all surfaces.
Professionals don't do it this way. We remove the doors and drawer fronts and use a custom-built shelf to hold the doors while we work, or take them offsite to our cabinet paint shop to be sprayed. This way, you are guaranteed a smooth, professional finish on both sides of your cabinet doors.
We cover anything that will not be painted (countertops, backsplashes, appliances, floors) with release paper or plastic. If we don't paint the inside of your cabinets, we tape paper or plastic over the openings where your doors and drawers sit, protecting the inside from any overspray. And we'll "cover" your kitchen with vapor barrier plastic, to contain dust and odors while spraying. We put zip holes in the plastic "walls" so you can walk into your kitchen when we're not working and access the fridge, sink, and pantry.

How Much Does It Cost To Professionally Paint Kitchen Cabinets In 2022?
Ah, this is where we really take pride in our operation! We go the extra mile to make the entire project as comfortable as possible for you. We think the best coating for kitchen cabinets is paint, but if there's a drawback, it's that shellac smells bad while spraying, and there's no getting around it.
But we are working on it! We not only coat your kitchen to contain odor, but we also use heavy-duty air purifiers with carbon filters and HEPA filters. We ventilate everything outdoors. In addition, air purifiers clean the air in a continuous cycle within the spray area. If there was a way to reduce odor and make it easier for you to coexist while you're in your home, we'd do it!
