So which tech companies are looking to hire vets right now? Here are some giants that are actively participating. Some of them have even developed training programs to help vets get a foothold in the tech industry.
On the Amazon Web Services (AWS) website, the tech giant promised to hire 25,000 veterans and employees by 2021. And for veterans without technical experience, Amazon has provided training and certification to 10,000 active duty service members, veterans and employees through its AWS Educate program. According to its website, AWS Educate offers access to "credits, training, and options to choose their desired cloud career."
While many veterans have a high level of technical skills, AWS does not require you to have prior knowledge or training in cloud services. It promises to provide a personal path to a rewarding career. AWS Educate is available to veterans, transition workers and their spouses living in the United States.
"At Amazon, we're always looking for leaders who understand that it takes grit and determination to get the job done," said Sean Kelley, a Navy veteran and director of talent acquisition at Amazon.
Creating Paths To Future Focused Careers
Google expanded its commitment to helping veterans find jobs with a Super Bowl LIII ad, announcing new programs and services that promise to help veterans and their families find a home at the tech giant.
It launched the "Help a Hired Warrior" program, which, according to its website, "is an annual national event that brings together veterans in transition with Google mentors in partnership with American Student Veterans and Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America."
Veterans are more than capable of their jobs, and Google obviously knows that. The program brings together veterans and mentors with workshops both in person and via Google Hangouts. In addition, a counselor helps the veteran find the right career path through resume, interviews and guidance.
Microsoft was one of the first companies to offer free training services to veterans and their families.
