A Hawaii furniture store has taken its Las Vegas "Island Ninth" nickname to heart as it opens its first mainland store in the valley.
Valyou Furniture has opened a showroom at Tivoli Village Mall, marking its third retail location, two of which are in Hawaii. They plan to hold a grand opening on Tuesday.
Chief Marketing Officer Eddie Castillo said the brand focuses on providing shoppers with affordable luxury with stylish, contemporary homewares and furnishings at a variety of price points. The showroom features a wide range of style options, from industrial to coastal.
"Having a millennial perspective on furniture is fresh and innovative, and that's why people gravitate to us," says Castillo. "In other showrooms, you might feel like everyone's trying to sell you something, or that the price is crazy—it's just too cheap. For us, it's more about, 'Let's go through the process of getting what you need. Things to help you live your best life. Feel free to sleep in your bed.'"

Valyou chose Las Vegas as its first mainland US location because of its proximity to customers and its cultural connection. Products can be easily shipped from Las Vegas to California and Texas — where many e-commerce customers live — and the large population of Hawaii and the Pacific Islands makes the market a good fit, Castillo said.
"Even though it's in the desert, it's a very small and solid space," he said. “So it was great to be invited by the community. We see it as another island to which we belong."
In addition to furniture, customers who shop at Valyou also have access to its free interior design service. Out-of-state customers can also use the service via video.
Interior designer Amina El Kadiri says the service is popular with clients who aren't sure how to complete their projects or who typically can't afford high-quality custom design services.

"It's a whole process," El Kadiri said. "We work with them from the beginning to the end of the store process. They can see the furniture in person, they can come and have a meeting in the store, so when we finish their project, they can see it."
Valyou sources its inventory from six brands, including Mario Capasa, Ohdome and Lemons & Me. The company says it has a selection of more than 10,000 items, priced to give customers more variety. For example, prices for a table on its site range from about $200 to about $1,500.
“We believe that furniture is not just for the few, it should be for everyone,” he said. "Furniture has an aspiration, like you see in magazines and on TV, and you just want to have that new-age furniture without sacrificing price."

Ashley Furniture is the worst. I purchased $10,000 worth of furniture with a one month delivery date. $1000 down payment, no future payments until delivery. They beat my delivery date by five times! When I finally gave them an ultimatum, they promised to deliver half of my order. The morning of the delivery they called and said "we didn't find anything for me in the warehouse" other than a Sealey mattress. They tried to trigger my payment by offering only the mattress! When I spoke to the store manager, Devin, he said "warehousing is not my job." Incredible. I have canceled my order and will not shop here again. I will tell everyone I know not to shop here. I do not recommend this store. Their delivery system is messed up. I bought a room divider and a fireplace. They rescheduled the delivery date twice! They didn't even call us or give us any updates. Last time I called they were told one of our orders was cancelled! They canceled it without even calling, emailing or texting us. Finally, my husband went to the store himself and canceled everything. So frustrating! Total waste of time!
