Joe Broyles, 61, a flight attendant at Oceania Air Station in Virginia Beach, took a seat in the sky and snapped eight pictures in eight seconds, hoping for luck.

"They're moving so fast, it's hard to know when to start pressing the shutter button," Broyles told Cathers.

Luck was on his side when Broyles' F-18 Super Hornet 2 jet broke the sound barrier, creating a steam cone around the jet that lasted for a tenth of a second.
Broyles has been on several airwaves in the past trying to get a tough shot. It is difficult not only because of the speed of the aircraft, but also to estimate the altitude of the aircraft.
"I don't know if it's going to be high, low or somewhere," he said. "I've been through all three."
"I was so excited when I saw the photo," Broyles said. "I've been waiting for this moment for at least five years, so when I saw the picture, I raised my hand with closed hands and finally got it."
