Toys Prove To Be Better Investment Than Gold, Art, And Financial Securities
From rock art you can make with Legos to a model of Elsa's castle on your child's bed.
According to research by the Russian Higher School of Economics, Lego is worth a lot more when sold - and the return is higher than gold, bonds and stocks.
The study, published last month by assistant professor Victoria Dobrinskaya, is titled "Champion of Smart Leaders." Dobrinskaya studied 2,000 Lego sets that were released between 1980 and 2014. He then compared their retail prices to what the products would fetch on the secondary market in 2015. 11 percent, some may convert to 613 percent.
"Although investing in a toy may seem strange, a large secondary market for Lego developed in the 2000s with tens of thousands of investors," the study notes. "Lego is not just a toy, but a diversified investment with average price-average stock returns, low market and crash risks, and good alpha."
The Fact Site — Lego Toys Are A Better Investment Than Stocks,
According to Dobrinskaya, Lego's popularity as an investment may be because it is "not a luxury type." It is accessible to people, because it is often overlooked and underestimated.
Lego is considered one of the most successful toy companies of all time. A Danish company founded in 1932, it began selling wooden toys, before the Kristiansen family, who owned the company, switched to making small plastic bricks sold by British toy retailers. The association has named it the "Game of the Century".

With small, colorful, and interlocking machines that "provide endless building possibilities," says the brand, Lego is amazing. It has been called a "must have" for kids who want to be designers and engineers because of the game's ability to inspire creativity. Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin are said to be big fans of their children, even using Lego for the company's first computer storage system in 1996.
Lego Gets You Better Returns Than Gold
As a business, Lego has gone through many ups and downs over the years - mostly in the past; Nearly went bankrupt in 2004 after failing to compete with commercial rivals such as Hasbro and Mattel. But with the help of mass market color
Movies, the company now generates about $5.3 billion in revenue each year, and is often referred to as the "Apple of toys" for its unprecedented popularity. The company sells 75 billion Lego bricks of 3,700 different types each year.
While Legos are great for kids — the company likes to share fun facts like how kids around the world spend 5 billion hours a year playing with its bricks — Lego is really popular with adults. Fans who know how to build with Lego have taken their skills to blogs, YouTube, and Instagram, while people like Nathan Savaia, Sean Kenny, and David Truman Tracy have used Lego to build projects. There is a large community of enthusiasts, known as Lego Adults or AFOLs, where people use Lego to build everything from Bugatti cars to Harley Davidson bikes to menorahs.
Because of Lego's popularity among adults, the brand also has a large market share. The Lego community is dominated by secondary sites, such as BrickLink, BrickPicker, and BrickScout, but the most popular site is eBay. There are thousands of Lego sets for sale on eBay, with some sets listed for over $10,000.

A study by the Russian Higher School of Economics found that Legos are retired for two years, and when they are not available, their prices go to the secondary market. Although retired sets may fetch more than their retail value when sold in the future, the most commanding types of Lego sets are those from popular movie franchises, such as

Of course, not all (or any) Lego sets will make you rich. Dobrinskaya found that the highest rate at which Lego sets were replaced was 613 percent, when
The Darth Raven set, which sold for $3.99 in 2014, sold for $28.46 on eBay the following year. That's not the kind of money you could pay off your mortgage with, but it does show that Lego sets are very attractive to a lot of people who are willing to pay the money.
Why Investing In Lego Can Be More Profitable Than Gold
There are also many popular Lego sets that come with huge price tags. The Lego Millennium Falcon, for example, sold for $500 in 2007, and today buyers are asking $7,000 and $9,000 for it on eBay. The Statue of Liberty Lego set that came out in 1998 and sold for around $200 is now selling for over $1600.
According to Dobrinskaya, the key to finding the perfect Lego set is to look for vintage items, and find working Lego projects. He classifies them as seasonal, film theme and architectural versions. Lego makers have also found that they sell more sets if they seal them.
On Reddit's flipping page, users have shared how they can make money buying Lego by changing the color, size, or just making smaller Lego figures that people really like.

Investing In Lego®: What You Need To Know
Lego parted ways with Amazon. Do you have the patience to catch and replace them? Do you have time to research the relevant fees and browse the fan web? When wondering if toys are worth the investment, look no further than the popular Beanie Babies trend of the late '90s, when many people flocked to Ty to buy these little animals, but they realized Turns out they're not quite right. Still very valuable after twenty years.
It's a good buy to sell more down the line, but you can end up with boxes of toys that won't last long, if ever. So, like any other investment, it comes with its own risks.
Plus, your kids can get into the boxes first, and then you step on the Lego - it's so awesome it's turned into a meme, and science has decided it's such a sight. The one you wish dead. good luck!
