Additionally, average maximum temperatures are in the top 10 warmest on record for Downtown Sacramento and Red Bluff (not shown). The hottest periods in downtown Sacramento occurred June 14-20 and July 8-11, where temperatures reached 100+ for 4 consecutive days. The hottest period in Redding was from June 25 to July 14, where temperatures reached 100+ for 20 consecutive days.

A significant heat wave occurred in mid-June, with several temperature records being equaled or broken from 17 to 18 June. Several places in the Valley soared near or above 110°, equaling or breaking their record high temperatures (image 2). Downtown Sacramento had its 4th highest temperature ever recorded for the month of June on the 18th (Image 2).

June through August was the 5th warmest summer on record for downtown Sacramento, as well as the 4th warmest June on record (Image 3). July 2021 had the second warmest on record for downtown Sacramento. Additionally, Downtown Sacramento had its 6th most 100° days in a year so far.
Meanwhile, Redding had the highest average temperatures recorded in the month of July (image 4). Additionally, Redding had its 7th most consecutive days of 100 degrees or more.
The 100th day number for this year was in the top 10 on record for Redding, Red Bluff and Downtown Sacramento (image 5). In fact, Redding had its seventh-most consecutive days of 100 degrees or more, ending on July 14.
According to the US Drought Monitor, drought conditions continue into inland Northern California and range from D3 Extreme Drought to D4 Exceptional Drought (Image 6). The drought ratings are due to significant rainfall shortfalls for the 2020 and 2021 water years. The NWS Climate Prediction Center's seasonal drought outlook indicates that dry conditions are likely to continue through the fall (Image 7).
