As an international student, you can use two main types of visas to study in the United States: the J-1 exchange visitor visa and the F-1 student visa. If you are attending high school as part of a cultural exchange program sponsored by the US Department of State, you can apply for a J-1 visa as an exchange student.
If you are attending high school outside of an exchange program, you will be in the U.S. for a year or more. An F-1 visa can be applied for whether studying in a public school or a private school.
