Three Square Food Bank President and CEO Brian Burton will step down next month after 11 years with the organization.
Three Square Food Bank Receives Donation To Combat Food Insecurity
His departure is effective September 30, according to a news release on Monday. Although Burton will be leaving Southern Nevada's only food bank, he will still help fight food insecurity as he plans to become CEO of the Arkansas Food Bank.
"Southern Nevada has always been my second home, and I'm proud of the work we've done as an organization and by extension as a community to help our neighbors," Burton said in a news release. "Both this was not an easy decision, but I look forward to this next chapter and returning to my roots in Arkansas to support and uplift the amazing people across the state."
Burton said he loved the job and the community in Southern Nevada, but decided to return to his hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas.
"It's more of an exit than an exit because it's the only food bank I go to that serves my home state," Burton told the Review-Journal.

In his 11 years at Three Square, he said the Southern Nevada community has become more aware of hunger-related issues and was able to overcome the coronavirus pandemic with a strong community response.
"When the blackout happened in March 2020, it was like a horror movie," Burton said. "But I've had a front-row seat to see how the community has responded compassionately and incredibly generously during the pandemic, with 15,000 new donors coming to Three Square."
According to Three Square, details of the search for a permanent CEO will be announced at a later date.

The nonprofit credit union presented its first round of funding to Three Square after pledging $1 million to fight food insecurity. With donations, Food Square is able to prepare 60,000 meals for food insecure individuals across Southern Nevada.
Three Square President and CEO Brian Burton said one in six people in the Las Vegas community struggle with food insecurity and donations are needed in the current economic climate.

“Today this inspection creates an incredible outpouring of 60,000 meals for the community. With inflation increasing the cost of rent (and) food and gas, it's not as necessary," Burton said. "We're the food bank of Southern Nevada. We have 185 charitable partners throughout Southern Nevada. So it's money 'combined with other resources and food immediately flowing through the valley.'
InTouch and Food Square have worked together for the past 10 years and have been raising money for the food bank since early 2022. The credit union was able to accept the use of some of its members' credit and debit cards, as well as loan payments to collect funds for donations.
"We know there is a need and need for food security in our Las Vegas community," said Karesa Peutres, regional vice president of InTouch Credit Union. "We want to make sure we provide those resources to help with that."
