Top Trucking Companies In Illinois - After all, if you have completed CDL truck driving career training, it only makes sense that you would ideally want to work for the best trucking companies in America!
What may be the best trucking company to work for, in your opinion, may not be the same company another driver wants to work for.
Top Trucking Companies In Illinois
I seriously notice the satisfied drivers who stay with the company long-term and learn how to separate the good carriers from the rest.
Pafco Truck Bodies
I kept a close eye on the history of many carriers, just in case I ever needed a new driving job.
You will be interested to note that some of the carriers I would have recommended 20 years ago do not make my current list of recommendations.
However, for one reason or another, they do not make the "paid driver list." (This is usually because the drivers are unionized.)
Some of these carriers have large fleets of trucks, but they are so well run that they can maintain a "family atmosphere," which I really like.

H.O. Wolding, Inc. - Wolding is a privately owned dry cargo insurance company located in Amherst, Wisconsin. A notable quality of Wolding is the low driver turnover rate, which speaks volumes for their driving jobs.
A well-run insurance company is known for treating its drivers well. I have personally spoken to many of the drivers over the years, and every driver speaks highly of their experience with this company.
Nussbaum Transportation - Nussbaum is located in Hudson, Illinois. They are a dry means of transportation, wisely managed and known because they are loved by drivers. ** (
Pride Transport Inc - This is a relatively small reefer outfit based in Salt Lake City, Utah. They work with the above equipment. Pride is privately owned. They have a great reputation for treating their drivers "like family".
Unicorn Freight Solutions
Walmart - Walmart is a quality trucking company with high job security and very low driver turnover, both of which are highly sought after by drivers. The reason for the strong job security is due to the fact that Walmart is not a regular insurance company, but a private insurance company.
They run their own fleet of trucks and carry their own cargo, which is not a common scenario for trucking companies, but one that provides good business security.
I like Walmart in particular because it is a private fleet, with great job security. Although they have thousands of trucks, they also do not fall under the usual classification of mega carriers.
TMC Transportation - TMC is a flatbed truck outfit based in Des Moines, Iowa. They own and operate excellent equipment, a definite attraction for passengers.
Truck Driving Jobs
Sammons Trucking - Sammons has been around for a while. They specialize in flatbed transportation and are based in Missoula, Montana. They hire both company drivers as well as owner operators.
Jim Palmer Trucking - J Palmer is a privately owned, family owned trucking company in Missoula, Montana. They are a temperature controlled cargo plane that runs the west coast of the United States in the Midwest, running decent equipment. They offer a paid CDL training program.
Western Distribution Transportation Corp - This small, privately owned company operates some of the finest equipment companies seen on the road. However, they are not known for being the largest paid carrier. They are a specialty car shipping service in Denver, Colorado.
TMC - A good starting company for the new driver. The pay is decent and yes, they have Peterbilts if that appeals to you.
Drivers Ride High On Trucking Boom
Schneider - Financially sound company (very important), no team driver training, 3 weeks of very structured training, less time with a mentor on the road than most.
Shaffer Trucking - They have 6-8 weeks of road training with a mentor. 1 week is 8 hours of team riding.
FedEx Ground - This one is not well known, but it's definitely worth checking out. FedEx Ground Contractors will hire and train new CDL drivers. Most things are team based, but there are also many solo runs as well as daily runs. We found the salary range for these drivers - from $85,000 to $98,000 per year. This is outside Columbus, OHIO.
They work with current model equipment, always well maintained. They rank well because they are one of the best trucking companies with paid training.
Trucking Companies Train You On The Job. Just Don't Try To Quit
Maverick is truly a mega insurance company. However, I personally rate them a cut above the rest due to the fact that they are a well run insurance company.
TMC - If a flatbed truck floats your boat, this insurance company offers a good training program with a decent salary paid for the 3 week training period.
We like the fact that the initial training period is 3 weeks and after completing this part, then the student is paired with a qualified trainer for another 5 weeks.
YRC Freight - YRC is not new to trucking. They are a syndicated insurance company and have been around for a long time.
The Advantages Of Becoming A Driver In The Moving Industry
They have training available in several locations: Kansas City, Maybrook, New York, Nashville, Tennessee, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Salt Lake City, Utah, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Hammond, Indiana. Current programs are published so availability of programs is good.
A particular advantage is that if the student successfully completes the training and starts working with YRC, the first year as a truck driver can pay between $60,000-$65,000.
Upon successful completion of the 4 week CDL training, you will have your CDL along with a double/triple endorsement with tanker. The company will then hire you as a full-time employee.
This operator pays all the time. If the truck does not move due to equipment failure or time delay, the employee is paid an hourly rate. And we love that.
S.d. Trucking Company Named Top 20 Fleets To Work For
XPO Logistics – XPO has no upfront fees for a trainee and provides trainees with 3 meals/day along with accommodation provided during the training period. The class is noted as small, even if the insurance company itself is a large insurance company.
Rapid Express - This Texas-based company offers training + employment. I have spoken to many drivers who love what this insurance company does.
Roehl + Schneider - Both of these companies send their interns to an external CDL school - Wisconsin Technical College.
ABF Freight - ABF is a primarily LTL carrier based in Fort Smith, Arkansas, with multiple yards. Another union insurance company that is definitely an above average payer.
Trucking Companies Are Struggling To Attract Drivers To The Big Rig Life
Barr-Nunn - From Granger, Iowa, a strong, stable insurance company working hard to reduce their carbon footprint in this world. They hire drivers for solo and team companies as well as owner operators.
They have been rated as the highest paying certified insurance company by the National Transportation Institute for the past 14 years.
Dupree Logistics - Dupree is a small tanker shipping outfit in Lafayette, Louisiana. They are in the process of opening several new branches across the United States. They stock well maintained late model equipment. Most transportation jobs are "hourly paid." Their management team is great.

UPS – UPS, a well-known shipping company, has several yards across the country and is a unionized trucking company. Because they are unionized, drivers' wages are above average. They have low driver turnover.
Old Dominion Freight Line - They've been around for 85 years and are still going strong. Although they are based out of Virginia, they have several yards across the US. The rate of pay given to drivers is higher than the average driver's salary.
Forward Air Corporation - This company is noted to have the highest salary for an independent contractor. They recently increased the payment to independents to another 0.15 / mil.
Hirschbach Motor Lines - Headquartered in Dubuque, Iowa, with yards in Sioux City, IA, Denton, TX, Springfield, Malatoria, Atlanta, GA, and Crete, NE, this company has been around for 80+ years.
Meiborg Brothers Trucking
They are privately owned and known for their low driver turnover rates. Definitely on the road fleet, carrying mostly temperature controlled products as well as dry cargo.
Crete Carriers - Crete's headquarters are centrally located in the United States, in Lincoln, Nebraska, which makes this major carrier convenient if you live in the central region of the United States.
They have a reputation for being a well run outfit and are known for treating their employees fairly. Send them to get good performance and personal reports (which can be rare).
I have interviewed drivers now in Crete who say they are getting "raises" across the fleet due to their performance during the current pandemic.
Million Award Upheld Against Trucking Companies And Driver
They have been around for 52 years and are still a privately owned entity which we think is a good benefit.
