5601 Universal Blvd Orlando Fl 32819 - Portofino, When the Italian mayor came to Orlando to help dedicate Universal Orlando's Portofino Bay Resort, she said she was perfectly at one with her city. I don't know if that's true or just part of Universal's marketing. One thing I am sure of is that Portofino Bay is my favorite resort in Orlando.
Walking into this resort, you could be forgiven for thinking you've been transported to the Italian Riviera. cafes by the bay; shops, to yards and side streets; This resort exudes a romantic, yet romantic feel to an Italian beach.

Portofino Bay opened in September 1999 and was Universal Orlando's first 'official' resort. The resort is owned by Universal Orlando but managed by Loews Hotels. Universal (quickly) recognizes that when hotels start operating, they will have to follow new rules and decide to work with an organization that already does that business well. Especially early in Universal's expansion. Chaos was at its peak. The right and left hands rarely know what the other is doing. These resorts were saved thanks to Loews management.

When you walk into the living room, which is decorated with Italian marble. One of the best features of this resort is that you immediately feel the charm of the environment; However, a bathing suit will be just as comfortable as a business suit. The relaxed atmosphere seems to rub off on the staff. The staff maintain an attitude of professionalism without being cold and friendly without being careless. This is the kind of service you get with good (and extensive) training. This level of service was especially evident when we arrived. The lady who checked us in could tell she knew our route, but she wanted to make sure we had all the information we needed to make the most of our stay. stay
Looking outside the lobby you will find guest services and a tourist gift shop, as well as Piazza Centrale.
This sprawling resort has 750 rooms, many of which overlook Portofino Bay, a lagoon connected to the waterway that transports guests to theme parks and CityWalk.
Portofino Bay has three standard cabins, all of which are large. Garden and Bay View rooms are 450 square feet and Deluxe rooms are 490 square feet. The rooms have one or two king beds; The mini fridge and Keurig coffee maker are well appointed with a selection of K. Cups. 42 inch screen television in every room; iHome clock with docking station; Free wireless Internet (can be upgraded to a faster connection for $14.95 per day); room safety; There is a cotton bath and turndown service (on request). The Wi-Fi in the room is very disappointing here. The 'free' version is like a phone call, and the paid version is faster, but still much slower than what most people use.

The new decor in the room is beautiful, but I have to admit that I love the old decor. Wedgewood blues and creams replace warm colors with a Mediterranean touch, but it feels out of place with the resort's traditional charm. This is a minor complaint. Which has nothing to do with my opinion of the resort. It is more of a personal view. During our stay we found the beds very comfortable with all high thread count cotton sheets. To me, the measure of a good theme park is how you feel after a day of running around the parks. These beds are soft and luxurious - as if you're sinking into them. heaven
It should also be mentioned here that the bathrooms in the rooms have their own zip codes. They are big. Bathrooms have separate bathtubs and showers as well as sinks.
Portofino offers a full suite; But the most exciting for families are the 650 square foot Despicable Me Kid Suites. These rooms have two rooms - the main room has a bed for the parents and there is a separate room called Gru's Laboratory.
Movies. It features two specially designed bunk beds with Minion-inspired bedding. For added security, The only door in the children's room is to the parents' room. There is no hallway from the children's room.

Portofino Bay has three pools - a private pool; A 'quiet' pool (also known as the Villa pool) and a smaller 'Hillside pool' are located on the eastern side of the resort. The 'Beach Pool' is the largest of the three beaches and there is no access for disabled guests. A special feature of the lake is that the slides are hidden inside Roman ruins, which many mistake for an abandoned pirate fortress. There are two hot tubs here, as well as a children's pool and playground. The beach pool has cover rent. But it is very limited. I found only three. Ceiling fans in Cabanas; small TV water cooler, including soda and fruit. Prices for cabanas can range from $150 to $300 per day, depending on the season and how busy the resort is.
Portofino Bay is also home to the Mandara Spa. Mandara is a full-service spa that offers a variety of treatments and can even arrange an 'in-room' massage if you prefer. Mandara's prices are in line with other luxury spas, and I found some services a little less than I expected. Mandara Spas carries Elemis products, which is great. However, You will want to buy the product after your treatment; It will cost you money (but Elemis is well worth it). What I would like to see added to this spa is more services for men. A growing trend among high-end spas is to include barbering services for men, and this resort seems well-suited for it - but no shaves and faces there for me. There is also a full service salon, But I prefer the barber service. Again, this is a personal view.
The Spa is also home to the Fitness Centre. This is a good size fitness center and seems to have several stations. I was sure I was too busy eating my cheeseburger and milkshake to focus on what was going on here. All fitness centers are like torture chambers to me. One of the unique features of a resort of this caliber is the $10 daily fee for the fitness center. Access to the fitness center is free if you have a spa treatment; However, I was surprised to find that most of the resorts I researched offered free use of the fitness center for guests.
Mandara Spa is one of the best in Orlando and does a lot of business from the locals. At busy times of the year, we highly recommend making your appointments here as far in advance as possible.
Review: Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Orlando • Passport Stamps
The hotel has four main dining areas. Upscale Bice (pronounced bee chai) specializes in Northern Italian cuisine. Mama Della's is a more casual table service restaurant at the resorts, while Trattoria Del Porto caters more to families. Sal's Market Deli is the counter service center at the resort. Casual elegance are two words I would use to describe Portofino Bay.
We ate at Sal's Deli and Mama Della's during our stay. In addition to pizza, Sal's also offers great hot and cold sandwiches. This is also the best place for a quick snack or drink. Sal's is open all day from 6am to 11pm and is a great place for a coffee and pastry before heading into the park. I thought the food at Sal's was reasonably priced and good for the area. Our group of 6 adults had lunch for about $15 per person. All agreed that the food was very good.
Mama Della's has historically been one of my favorite places to eat in Orlando for years. But I have to admit that the last few trips have been less than ideal. The food wasn't bad, but the dishes I tried lacked flavor or creativity. The atmosphere around the table is good; The service is also good. But last night I ate at The Kitchen at the Hard Rock Hotel (at reasonable prices).
The parks are easily accessible from Portofino. Walk 10 minutes or you can use the boat service provided. The boats seem to run about every 15 minutes and it's a very scenic ride. Boats start running early in the morning for those who take advantage of early entry to Diagon Alley.
