Warranty Useless Rated 1 out of 5 by Donavan Don't rely on the 12-year warranty as an indication of quality or reliability. (Trust me this is not a good indicator) Note that the warranty is based on the date of manufacture, not the date of placement in service. You should also have a plumber first verify that the warranty does not cover labor and that the tank cannot be fixed. If the product is no longer available or another visit is required you must pay to return the plumber. In my case, both "Home Depot" locations in my area did not have the replacement tank in-stock for over a week and the tank had to be special ordered. If you don't have an extended warranty with "Home Depot" and your tank is 5 or 6 years old, bring the wholesale tank with a mark-up to the plumber and pay to have the tank installed. I had a disappointing and negative experience with GE warranty service. I found that there was no cost savings in using this limited warranty. Hope my experience helps you decide on your next purchase.
Rated 5 out of 5 by TomTom1359 No problems 13 months later I purchased and installed this GE water heater in December 2012. I did a lot of research online before purchasing this brand of heater. It is not actually made by GE, but by Ream. Ream has a good reputation for the quality of their water heaters and gas furnaces. I'm not sure why it has a GE label on it, it's a bit confusing. It took me about 6 hours to install the heater, which included removing the old heater and removing the copper water pipes because I didn't like where they were. The heater fires up easily and I haven't had any problems since I also checked consumer reports magazine and they said that most brands of water heaters have the same quality but you should buy the heater with the longest warranty among the brands because they are usually built to last. I also wanted a heater that had an easily accessible anode since I plan to replace the anode every couple of years. My previous water heater was a Bradford White that lasted 24 years and worked perfectly. I thought about replacing it with another Bradford white but the anodes are hard to access. They are now sold exclusively through plumbing contractors. I've also considered tankless water heaters but they don't make much sense in the Canadian climate as they need to be enlarged to instantly heat the very cold water coming into them. They are expensive, not DIY friendly to install so you need a plumber to do the job and require regular maintenance Even if they are more fuel efficient, the additional cost of purchase and installation does not make economic sense.

Does that seem like a pretty bad power factor? Are there more efficient units? What are the ratings for similar tanks?
The higher the plumb, the more efficient the unit will be tankless and to test other tank types I need to narrow down the choices by knowing the size you are looking for, length of warranty and type (eg natural gas, electric). Hope it helps.
