If you've been married, you probably have a good idea. why do many people get divorced?
But while most people are aware that all kinds of factors affect how a marriage works, did you know that the state you live in can also play an important role?
Us Divorce Rates Have Hit A 50 Year Low And Marriage Rates Are Lowest Ever

Fabric. Whatever your feelings about the results, you have to admit that it seems a little strange that the divorce rate in the Bible Belt is so high.
We have an expanded list at the end of this article to help you visualize the data a little differently, but first, here's a more in-depth look at the top five and bottom five states in the US for divorce rates.
Major Us Cities And Their Probability To Higher Marriage Success
With more than 600,000 acres of lakes and 2.5 million acres of national forest, Arkansas is known for its rustic beauty and enduring pioneer culture.
What is less sustainable is marriage in the state - with a divorce rate of almost 20%, Arkansas is firmly at the top of our list. Not very good prospects for those who are newly married to the natural state.
The potato capital of the United States, Idaho is #2 on our list and has one of the highest divorce rates in the country.
Idaho's location right next to Washington and Oregon — which have low divorce rates of 10 percent and 11 percent, respectively — doesn't seem to be helping the state, which has a divorce rate of 17.6 percent.

Oklahoma; where the weather changes by the hour, where the wind blows across the plains, and where the divorce rate is (apparently) the 3rd highest in the country.
That high tornado rate must have driven all the happier couples to Texas—Oklahoma's divorce rate is currently 17.21%, another Bible Belt with a strange relationship to marriage.
Home to Forrest Gump and, we assume, at least a few real people, Alabama, where the divorce rate is 15.52%.
Like the states at the top of the list, Alabama is in the Bible Belt, but unlike the other Bible Belts on our list, Alabama is right in the middle.
How Divorce Rates In Your State Have Changed Since 1990
Baptists, Methodists, and Protestants all make up the state's largest religious denominations, and it is remarkable that in a state whose culture places so much emphasis on the sanctity of marriage, such a high number of people on the hit cancel button.
Known as the largest producer of coal in the United States and the second largest producer of "Area Man" stories, West Virginia ranks last on the top 5 list with a divorce rate of 15.38%.
The region has the highest concentration of caves in the United States, which may explain the holes in the hearts of the citizens that marriage can never fill.
It's depressing, we know. But enough of these sad, lonely states - let's take a look at some states where marriages actually last.

New york! New York tops the list for the lowest divorce rate of any place at 4.97%.
It's the same cold, tired New York full of liberals who are supposedly trying to destroy everyone's marriages.
New England's other liberal haven and mobster capital of the world, New Jersey, comes in second with a divorce rate of just 5.34%.
Sorry, we certainly didn't mean to imply that everyone who lives in New Jersey works for the mob. But if one of them does, you can bet their marriage is much happier than Tony Soprano's ever was.

Home to the Salem witch trials and the subsequent exploitation of the state's violent witch trial past, Massachusetts may not be the place with the third lowest divorce rate in the country, and yet that is the world we live in today.
Connecticut, the land of deer, colleges and hedge funds. The state's divorce rate is an almost inexplicable 6.27%, especially considering the abundance of rich, unhappy people who live there.
Inexplicable, that is, until you remember the concept of a prenuptial agreement. The rich will endure all kinds of resentment if it means they stay rich.
Last but not least - because the "worst" New York, as already mentioned - is the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Keystone State.
Divorce Fell In One Florida County (and 31 Others), And You Will Totally Believe What Happened Next
Pennsylvania just makes the list of the 5 lowest divorce rates at 6.59%. Perhaps Pennsylvania's status as the birthplace of Mister Rogers (of neighborhood fame) just makes it wholesome enough to keep Keystone couples together forever.
That's all for now! Below is a chart of the states ranked in the top 30 by divorce rate, but there's more to see here:.
