Fortunately for current and prospective EV dealers, Cars.com breaks the awards down into four different categories, which should appeal to a variety of consumers. Each category focuses on different issues, and of course there is some overlap. Categories include value, sport, luxury and commuter.
Electric Cars (and Trucks) To Watch For In 2022
A team of website experts considered price, range, convenience and features to find the winners. He researched more than 30 electric cars, trucks and SUVs before choosing the best options. Cars.com Editor-in-Chief Jenny Newman:

Then there's the family award that can easily go to ID. However, Cars.com chose to give the award to the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5. The publication called the unique crossover a compact vehicle with a spacious cabin that provides flexibility, a spacious second row of seats and a comfortable ride.
Lucid Air Electric Car Review: Vehicle Is Extraordinary
When it comes to the luxury category, it's no surprise that Cars.com chose the Lucid Air for 2022. The ultra-luxury Lucid sedan doesn't really have much competition, and the press awarded the Mercedes EQS an Honorable Mention.
The publisher calls Hova a "next-level EV" and a "game changer." The Lucid electric sedan is said to have more cargo space, a more intuitive and responsive infotainment system, and a more refined interior and exterior than the Tesla. The Air has great acceleration and a segment-leading electric range.
Finally, the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV and Bolt EUV lead the way in the Commuters segment. Both Chevy EVs offer great electric power and competitive pricing. Cars.com highlights the Bolt's torquey acceleration, fun driving dynamics and compact size. The Bolt is still roomy and comfortable inside, but not enough to provide excellent maneuverability.
Cars.com also noted the recent recall of the Bolt, noting that "there is little chance of further problems with this model."

A new off-road electric car has been named the best car of 2022 by MotorTrend magazine. The winner of 2020 magazine's 2022 Car of the Year award is the Lucid Air, built by highly regarded Silicon Valley startup Lucid Motors.
Cars are classified based on six key criteria: design excellence, engineering excellence, efficiency, performance of intended functions, safety and value. Data on the latter two metrics is lacking for a new car, but the Lucid Air scored so highly in the other four categories that it made six finalists, including the Mercedes-Benz EQS and the Porsche Taycan.
The original Lucid Air Dream and Grand Touring models will reach speeds of 451-520mph with just 118kWh and 112kWh battery power respectively. "The Lucid S-Class gets a lot of miles per kilowatt-hour for a luxury sedan."

The magazine also highlighted Lucid Air's high efficiency for electric vehicles, measured in mpg-e. With an EPA rating of 111-131 mpg-e on the air, better than comparable models like the Tesla Model S (96-120 mpg-e), Audi E-tron GT and Porsche Taycan (70-79 mpg-e). . Mercedes EQS has not yet been rated.
Lucid Motors went public on the Nasdaq last July through a SPAC merger, raising $4.5 billion in new capital.
