University Of New England Physician Assistant Program

Graduates of Mount Saint Joseph's Physician Assistant program will be recognized for their leadership and excellence in health care, demonstrating professionalism, compassion and an attitude of service to others.

The Mount Saint Joseph University Physician Assistant Program, sponsored by the Mount Saint Joseph University Physician Assistant Program, has been granted continuing accreditation status by the Accreditation Review Commission for Physician Assistant Education (ARC-PA). Accreditation-Continued is an accreditation status granted when a currently accredited program meets ARC-PA standards.

Certification is valid until completion of the program or withdrawal from the certification process, or until certification is revoked for failure to meet criteria. The estimated date for the next verification review of the ARC-PA program is March 2032. The review date is dependent on continued compliance with accreditation standards and ARC-PA policies.

The Physician Assistant Program at Mount Saint Joseph University has provisional accreditation with the ARC-PA. Successful completion of a PA program, whether taught in person or through a virtual platform, meets the academic requirements for initial licensure in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

How To Pay For Physician Assistant School With Pa School Loans

Ohio Mercy College of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) is a 118-credit cohort-based program designed to provide a graduate-level learning experience that produces PA graduates who can provide competent, patient-centered care to diverse student populations in a variety of ways. clinical settings, while also encompassing service, scholarship, and leadership.

On the campus of Mercy College in Toledo, Ohio, PA space includes dedicated PA classrooms, lab and student space, and outpatient exam rooms. Additional training programs include simulation labs, interprofessional education, anatomy tables, and clinical skills labs.

The seven (7) semester program consists of four (4) academic terms and three (3) clinical terms. Students will have seven (7) required Supervised Clinical Practice Experiences (SCPEs) as well as elective experience opportunities. Students are expected to engage in 40-60 hours/week of direct patient contact.

The first cohort of 20 PA students (PAS) will begin in May 2021 and the clinical trial will run from August 2022 to early August 2023. The second batch of 25 PAS students starts in May 2022. The third and subsequent batches are expected to reach 30 PAS.

Physician Assistant Program

ARC-PA has granted provisional accreditation to the Ohio Mercy College Master of Physician Assistant Studies sponsored by Ohio Mercy College.

Accreditation-Provisional is accreditation status granted when the program and resource allocation (if fully implemented as planned) to a proposed program that has no enrolled students appears to demonstrate the program's ability to meet ARC-PA.

Accreditation-Provisional does not confer any further accreditation status. It is limited to not more than five years after receiving the first class. Mercy College of Ohio's physician assistant degree program is accredited by ARC-PA and meets the educational standards that require graduates of the program to take the PANCE (Physician National Certification Examination for Physician Assistants). This is a licensure requirement in all states where graduates plan to work. Full licensing requirements may vary by state.

Licensure is required to practice as a physician assistant in all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Licensing is required in all states where physician assistants practice and must be renewed periodically, and most states require continuing education.

The PA program at Ohio Mercy College is committed to being flexible. In general, online courses are not a problem because this is accepted pedagogy. Pass/Fail Grades Custom/Fail grades are generally accepted for semester courses affected by the pandemic (eg, courses that changed from graded to pass/fail after the course began). Course pass/fail is recorded in the candidate's existing GPA and other admissions data. A home-based GRE is accepted. If a course is already offered for online assessment, candidates must take the assessed course. Our admissions open houses and interview sessions have moved to virtual offerings, pending the results of public health data and guidelines. Our admissions committee will be actively involved in reviewing admissions files, contacting candidates as needed for additional information and making decisions based on our published criteria.

The program is 7 semesters long. There will be 4 terms of teaching (in the classroom) and 3 terms of clinical rotation (on site).

Mercy College has developed local and national mentoring partnerships for clinical rotations. The rotation is six weeks, sometimes three weeks. Students must be willing to travel during the clinical year.

The PA program has a direct admissions pathway. The projected seats reserved through the Direct Entry cohorts are as follows: 4 seats in May 2022 (Class of 2024) and 5 seats in May 2023 (Class of 2025). Interviews will be offered to qualified undergraduate pre-PA Biology majors from Mercy College who have completed the Graduate Admissions/CASPA application process.

No, Mercy College does not accept transfer credit from other PA programs. PA students who find themselves in this situation must apply as new applicants and be sure to submit their PA school transcripts and other records.

PA-CAT is not an admission requirement. If an applicant has taken the PA-CAT (Physician Assistant College Admission Test), the Ohio Mercy College PA Program Admissions Committee will consider the score for consideration as part of the application. The PA-CAT is a specialized test designed to measure an applicant's knowledge of core science subjects commonly required in PA schools.
