Health Insurance For International Students In Ontario - If you are going to be an international student in Canada, did you know that most schools will require you to have health insurance to enroll? So what are your best options if you're only doing a short course? Or what if you need a policy for more than one year? Check out the article below for all the answers!
Health insurance is a detail that is often overlooked by students if they are going to study abroad in Canada. But it is very important to make sure that your stay abroad is smooth and safe. In addition, you may need to show proof of medical cover to enroll on your course. With this in mind, I have separated the best insurance options for students in Canada, along with information about student visas, the most popular courses and the Canadian healthcare system.

The main reason for getting health insurance is to make sure you are covered in case you need medical care in your new country of residence.
Getting Health Insurance For International Students In C...
But in the case of Canada specifically, not all students can use the public health system. And without insurance, even basic health care can be very expensive.
Although that's not news to anyone, is it? So, beyond this reason, here are some other reasons that I would recommend for students in Canada:
Canada's health care system is public. However, each province still has its own health plan...or whatever health system they think is best.
This means that the rules for healthcare vary from place to place and it is not always free. In British Columbia, for example, citizens have to pay a monthly fee of about $40.
Health & Dental Plan
As I said earlier, each province has its own rules, and not all of them entitle students to the public health system.
Also, most provinces only cover students if they stay at least 6 months in the country. But in some provinces, such as Alberta, coverage is only available to students who stay at least 12 months. And in some cases, there may also be a grace period (as in British Columbia).
One of the biggest questions international students have is whether health insurance is required to enter Canada or not. In this case, the answer is no. You do not need to enter your immigration policy.
However, most (if not all) schools in Canada will require students to show proof of insurance before starting their course.

That is to say, insurance is really necessary. And the best case is that everything is in order before you leave your home country. This will ensure that you won't have any problems if/when you arrive in a province where you are unfamiliar with the healthcare system.

As always, I recommend that you do a quick quote online with all the companies I recommend here. It might take a little time, but it could save you a lot of money at the end of the day!
IMGlobal offers a variety of student insurance plans (as well as general expat insurance plans).
How To Apply For A Health Card In Ontario (ohip)
They offer three different insurance plans made specifically for students. But since one of them is only for students studying abroad in the United States (The Patriot Exchange Program), we will only talk about two of them here.
This program should be sufficient to meet whatever health coverage requirements your school has (although check the minimum coverage required by your school first!).
This particular plan covers many things that many others do not, including mental health disorders, maternity care and pre-existing conditions. IMG also covers COVID-19 like any other illness and injury subject to policy terms and conditions.
Cigna Global, one of the world's largest health insurance companies, offers plans for travelers, expats and (of course!) international students.
Study In Canada
They offer 3 main plans: Silver, Gold and Platinum. These plans will cover you not only in Canada, but worldwide! And if you have plans to visit the United States during your stay in Canada, you can choose to be covered there as well (although this will make your policy a bit more expensive, so it might be more better to just get a short ride.your visit to USA).
Cigna plans are really flexible and allow you to add whatever you want (including things like dental and eye treatments or international evacuation and crisis assistance).
The company also has a flexible payment policy and offers different options such as annual, monthly and quarterly payments.
Basic or Premium? Short or long term stay in Canada? Alone or with the family? No matter what your needs are, you can find a plan with Foyer Global Health that works for you.
Essentials For Students And Residents
HCCMIS is another provider that offers insurance for students and full-time students studying abroad (along with the usual travel insurance offers).
Here are the 4 levels of student health insurance coverage they offer (they all work great for Canadians!):
Global Underwriters offers international health insurance plans to a wide variety of travelers, including exchange students and study abroad students.
When it comes to GU plans, I recommend Diplomat Long Term and Diplomat International for international students in Canada.
Are Pre Existing Conditions Included In International Insurance
The last two companies I will list below do not offer health insurance specifically for overseas students. That said, they do offer international health insurance which your school or university will (probably) accept as proof of cover.
So here's my advice: Get a quote for the two companies below and compare it to the quote you get from the companies listed above. If you feel that either company offers good coverage at a lower price than the other options, check with your Canadian school or university to see if they accept this type of policy.
Geoblue is another great option if you are looking for a health insurance policy to cover you while studying in Canada.
A good thing about Aetna is that their plans are really flexible (you can customize based on what you want covered) and they have pretty good customer service (as far as insurance companies go, that is).
Student Medical Insurance
Within the US US: Up to 80% coverage with a $25,000 limit In-PPO/Outside PPO Network: Up to 50% coverage with a $25,000 limit

Now that you know all about the best student health insurance companies in Canada, you probably also have an idea about the type of course you plan to take in the country.

But if not, here is a list of the 3 most popular courses that international students take in Canada.
Like the United States, Ireland and Australia, Canada is also popular for those who want to take a language course. You can find courses in French and English, the two most widely spoken languages in the country.
For anyone looking to do a university degree abroad, Canada is a great choice. Your study time can be between 1 and 5 years. And in some cases, it is even possible to work at the same time and provide for a family (including spouses and children, for example).
In addition, university degrees are an option for many students who wish to live in Canada later. Especially if you plan to apply for residency through Express Entry, where you will get a lot of points if you complete your university degree in Canada.
Non Insured Walk In Clinic
If you are interested in this option, you can find university courses in almost anything: administration, computer science, marketing, etc.
Of course, the length of these programs can vary. In some cases, it is possible to work while studying.
Anyone thinking of studying abroad will need to pay close attention to the type of visa they will need and how they can apply. In Canada, the most common student visas are student visas and tourist visas.
In some cases, it is possible to apply for a visa that allows you to work or a family visa that also allows you to work. However, these are conditions that vary significantly depending on the course, institution and length of course chosen.

So, below I'll talk a little more about the two most common visa options for students in Canada.
Most tourists who need a visa in Canada need something called a "visitor visa". But for students, these same tourist visas can be used when the course is less than 6 months.
However, the Canadian immigration website states that a student visa can be applied for even short courses. One of the advantages of a student visa is that you can leave and enter the country without any problems during your studies. For example,
