The school celebrated its 100-year anniversary with local leaders and supporters at a special event at the 51Fifteen restaurant in Saks Vyfdelaan on Sunday evening.
Owner-Director Glenda Jemison (affectionately known as "Ms. J"), her husband, Ron Jemison Sr., and their son, Ron Jemison Jr. and his wife, Zameika Jemison, greeted guests including Tina Knowles- Lawson, mother of Beyonce. and Solange, and her actor husband Richard Lawson. (Ron Jr. and Zameika organized the celebration.)

Franklin Beauty School, operated by the Jemison family since 1915, is a fixture in a retail mall along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. In 2012, the school was the focus of Oprah Winfrey's eight-episode reality show "Houston Beauty" on OWN.
During an interview with icle, Jemison said: "When I started in this business, I was very nervous. I was only 23 years old and had no interest in cosmetics, but after a few years I fell in love. I love helping students. The excitement That's when they come back after getting their license and say, “Thank you.” “There's a huge demand for cosmetologists in the Houston area. Recession and unemployment spikes have minimal impact on the industry, as consumers place a high priority on looking their best. With the demand for cosmetologists continuing to increase, there is no better time to enroll in a cosmetology school and earn a decent living helping men and women feel good about themselves.
As a licensed cosmetologist in Houston, you can cut, color, and style hair, perform manicures and pedicures, eyebrow shaping, makeup, and much more. Your responsibilities will extend to various aspects of beauty (skin care, hair care and nail care), so your training must be comprehensive. Consequently, cosmetology programs in Texas must cover at least 1,500 contact hours and can last approximately 16 months. Your diverse skills by the end of the program will provide you with opportunities to work as a skin care specialist, hairstylist, or makeup artist. Cosmetologists also work in sales, research, and publishing. The career benefits are endless and can include financial stability, business ownership, flexibility, job security, recognition, and independence.
Regency Beauty Institute Closes 79 Schools In 19 States
You must have a cosmetology operator license issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to practice in Texas. Requirements for licensure include a high school diploma or equivalent, beauty school training (at least 1,500 hours of instruction), and passing the written and practical exams. Operating licenses are valid for two years from the date of issue.
The Cosmetology program at Houston Community College provides students with classroom and practical instruction to prepare for a career as a licensed Cosmetologist. Theoretical and practical instruction covers basic fundamentals as well as advanced techniques that meet state licensing requirements. Courses include Intro to Haircutting and Related Theory, Fundamentals of Cosmetology, Intro to Hair Color Theory and Chemistry, Special Topics in Cosmetology, Advanced Hair Design, Salon Development, Advanced Hairstyling and Related Theory, Beauty Techniques advanced, general psychology and hair art, theory and practice. The school offers three program options: the Associate of Applied Science degree, the Certificate Licensure I, and the Certificate Level II. Graduates of the program will be eligible to take the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation exam.
Tuition is approximately $1,270 per semester for full-time students within the district. The cost of books, supplies, uniforms, and equipment is not included in the total.
Ogle School's cosmetology program trains students in the art and science of cosmetics. Instructors will use lectures, demonstrations, and student activities to help participants develop proficiency in the theory and practice of cosmetology. Course content includes hairstyling, color, business skills, professional development, salon management, chemical textures, manicures and related theory, health and safety laws, facials, and hair removal. Students will receive theoretical and practical training in each domain (hair care, nail care, and skin care) to develop interpersonal skills in attitude, communication, salesmanship, job readiness, and professionalism. A traditional and hybrid program option is available. Full-time and part-time training options are offered.
Austin Isd Students Say Cosmetology Program Is More Than Just 'playing With Hair'
Houston Training School's cosmetology program trains students in basic handling skills, proper work habits, and desirable attitudes. Coursework will be delivered in sequential steps to meet requirements for state board and entry-level employment in industry. Course topics include state law, salon operations, goal setting, communication, hygiene, professional image, temporary and advanced nail techniques, eyelashes and brows, light therapy, and electrical appliances. Graduates will be able to perform basic handling skills, practice proper grooming, and use good judgment.
The cosmetology program at Aveda Arts combines theory and practical training to provide students with a fundamental understanding of beauty and wellness. Experienced instructors will lead classroom lectures (the foundation of student training), hands-on experiences (the application of knowledge), and professional skill development (for student success in business). Areas of study include haircutting, nail care, makeup, business development, retail knowledge, color and texture services, hairstyling, chemical waxing, waxing, manicures/pedicures, and employability skills. The first few weeks of the program highlight Trends in Precision Cutting, Coloring, Styling and Retexturing. Licensed instructors will guide students through the salon environment while working with salon clients.
The cost of the program is $16,500. The costs of textbooks, supplies, equipment for students, and fees must be added to the cost.
The Institute of Cosmetology, Esthetics and Massage provides cosmetology students with the skills necessary to succeed in the competitive beauty industry. The training consists of lectures and hands-on activities to support the development of technical skills in hair care, nail care, and skin care. Theoretical teaching covers anatomy and physiology, basic chemistry and product knowledge, color theory and styles and fashion. Skills training includes relaxers, permanents and semi-colors, hair cutting, washing and conditioning, basic skin cleansing and makeup application, hair and scalp analysis. And basic manicure and pedicure. Graduates will be prepared to take the state exam to become a licensed cosmetologist. Full-time and part-time hours are offered. Full-time classes meet Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. m. to 3:00 p.m. m. Part-time classes are held Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. m. to 1:00 p.m. m.

The cosmetology program offered by Lone Star College is approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Through a unique partnership, Lone Star College provides students with the opportunity to learn and use Farouk Systems' products and methods. Experienced teachers are extensively trained at Farouk Systems headquarters to share the methods with students. They will cover haircutting, styling, perms, manicures, facials, hair straightening, and client consultation on hair care products. Graduates will be eligible to take the state exam to obtain a license to practice in the state of Texas.
The all-inclusive tuition for the program is $14,000. This includes the equipment needed to be successful in the program.
