"Going into the new year we have extra patrols, we're looking for people who are driving impaired, whether it's drugs or alcohol, and making sure the city is safe and the community is safe," said Sgt. Magdalena.

Mike Hazlip - Two Citrus Heights men were arrested on weapons, drug and other charges after a traffic stop in Plaster County, where they were unarmed, authorities said Wednesday.
The Citrus Heights Police Department announced Monday that officers will conduct DUI and driver's license enforcement operations Thursday night through Friday morning.

The department announced the upcoming operation in a press conference as well as on social media, but did not reveal where the checkpoints would take place. The performance starts at 21:00. on December 15th and continues until 2 a.m. the next day.
Previous checkpoint operations typically involved officers briefly stopping vehicles to look for signs of alcohol and drug impairment, as well as checking for valid driver's licenses. Police also warn that drugs that can affect driving include many prescription drugs and even some over-the-counter drugs.
DUI crashes killed 802 people and seriously injured nearly 24,000 in California alone last year, the department said. Nationwide, the department said nearly 10,000 people have died.
As previously reported by The Sentinel, the Citrus Heights Police Department said it will pre-announce DUI enforcement as a public awareness tool to deter drunk drivers from getting behind the wheel. The department also regularly deploys "DUI Saturation Patrols," which specifically look for and stop drivers who show signs of intoxication.
Sacpd To Hold Dui Checkpoint Tonight In Natomas
Funding for CHPD checkpoints comes from funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Last year, the CHPD announced it had received a $205,000 OTS grant to support one-year safety-related programs such as DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) North Sacramento District has announced DUI checkpoints to be held in unincorporated Sacramento County on Saturday, December 30, 2022. Checkpoints will be set up around 21:30. and work starts at 10:00 AM and ends at 3:00 AM.
If there is inclement weather, checkpoints will be canceled for safety reasons and personnel will be assigned to mobile DUI units.
The sobriety checkpoint is staffed by CHP officers trained to detect alcohol and/or drugs. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration-accredited CHP drug detection experts conduct on-site evaluations of drivers suspected of being under the influence of drugs. Officers will also be equipped with state-of-the-art hand-held breathalyzers

The West Sacramento Police Department is supporting a new effort by the Office of Traffic Safety aimed at educating all drivers that DUI is not just about drinking. If you take prescription drugs, especially those with warnings on the label about driving or operating a vehicle, your chances of getting a DUI may be significantly impaired. Marijuana can be harmful, especially when combined with alcohol or other drugs, leading to a DUI.
The deterrent role of high-precision enforcement using DUI checkpoints and DUI saturation patrol cars can reduce deaths and injuries in alcohol- or drug-related crashes. Research shows that when proactively promoted DUI enforcement is conducted regularly, crashes involving impaired drivers can be reduced by 20%.
DUI checkpoints like these are placed in locations based on accident statistics and DUI arrest rates to provide the greatest opportunity to avoid drinking and drug driving. Locations are selected with the safety of officers and the public in mind.
