There is only one campground in the Red Rock Conservation Area and that's it. It has 72 sites ranging in price from $10.00 to $60.00 per night depending on site and size. This camp is quite busy in the fall, winter and spring, but less so in the summer (we'll see). Located 5 miles from the Red Rocks main gate and across the street from Calico Basin, which is not in the park. Both areas have hiking, unlimited climbing (traditional, sport, bouldering) and kayaking. Walking spots are hard to come by, so it's best to make reservations in advance at www.recreation.gov. There is no hookup, trash can, or shower here. Shadow structures are also limited in places, so be prepared. Some places have fire rings, tables and grills on the ground, again book early to get the spot you want. The campground is located 10 minutes west of Las Vegas, very close to the city and HWY 215.

Mount Charleston is about 45 minutes north of Las Vegas and has a variety of campgrounds (free and paid). The camping is variable, and the altitude varies between 7,000 and 9,000 meters. This makes for a great summer getaway in the city, if it's over 110 degrees in Las Vegas, it's usually around 85 degrees during the day and cooler in the evenings. All sites are reserved online and offer some walk-in locations. These areas are quickly booked as people escape the heat. The camp is open year-round and is close to many beautiful hiking trails, skiing and mountain biking trails, single and multi-climbing areas, and skiing slopes in the winter months. Kyle Canyon is the closest connection to town, and a little further north is Lee Canyon, with scattered camping, skiing in the winter, and fun hiking in the summer. Lee Canyon has just opened its new lodge with good food, drink and views. There are also plenty of day use and picnic areas.
Willow Beach is located about an hour south of Las Vegas as you head towards the Grand Canyon. It is home to the Colorado River below the Hoover Dam. It's a great place to camp and explore depending on the weather and time of year. The water is much colder than the lake, so be prepared. The camp offers subscriptions, rental and many other benefits. It's a popular place for kayaking, as you can paddle to Hoover Dam or Emerald Cave. Emerald Cave is a small limestone cave by the river that turns green at certain times of the day when the sun hits the water. On Sundays, the NPS does not allow motorboats on the river, which is nice. This is a great place to see and hang out down there. It also has access points to the hot springs located just upstream. Do your research and prepare for rapid changes in temperature and weather.
