Beauty Schools In Reno Nv - Paul Mitchell School Reno will begin offering licensed nail technician courses in early 2017. The demand for expertise is increasing.
"I've seen more nail technicians in my last 16 years of experience," said Douglas Christensen, owner of Paul Mitchell's The School, Reno. "We're getting a lot of calls from local salons looking for nail technicians and we didn't have a program designed for that, so we decided to add this, especially since other schools are out of business."

The school welcomed more than 70 students from two other cosmetology schools in Northern Nevada that closed their doors in recent months. Paul Mitchell School has adapted its space to accommodate the new program.

"We moved some areas, bought new furniture and created a new space that will be a nail spa-like experience," Christensen said. "The great thing about the nail program is that it's a short program, 600 hours, rather than 1600 hours."
This means that the nail technician course can be completed in four months if done full time. The training offers many opportunities for real-world clients to get manicures or pedicures.
"Everybody's scared at first," Christensen said. "When you work with the public, you worry about not doing everything right or not doing it, but when you go to a school that prepares you to be a professional, you really have the confidence to go. You know you're a professional. This."

News broke on February 4, 2016: The school was permanently closed after the United States Department of Education said Marilou used questionable business practices against students and the government regarding student loans.
The Department of Education said Marinello has reached out to receive aid for students with invalid high school diplomas. Teachers filled their cars, fearing that something like this would happen.
Some students are looking for ways to supplement their education. About 25 to 30 of them went to Paul Mitchell School in Reno to explore learning opportunities.

"Honestly, I told the students there, if this had happened in esthetics school, I don't think I would have graduated esthetics school. I didn't fall in love with this industry after my cosmetology experience. So if my school was half closed, I don't think I would have made it,” said Doug Christensen, owner of Paul Mitchell's The School, Reno.
Christensen said the school requires a certain number of hours before each Marinello student is placed. This information comes from the State Board of Cosmetology.
As for the loans, Christensen said, if school goes normally, the US Department of Education will forgive the loans, and students can reapply to finish their studies. However, these decisions are based on each case.
Marinello Reno is not the only one to close the beauty school. A nationwide chain has been closed following an investigation by the US Department of Education.
