We've reviewed every tankless water heater on the market and our favorite is the Rheem Performance 27 kw (5.6 GPM). This is not only the best tankless electric water heater, but also the best choice overall.

In most dimensions, the Rheem Performance 27 kw and the EcoSmart 27 kw are very similar products. Both are generally considered the best tankless electric water heaters on the market.
Which Water Heater Brand Is Best?
In many American cities, the water contains minerals that can build up in the hot water heater and eventually corrode the tank or other components. (You can see how hard your water is by looking at this map).
All Rheem tankless water heaters are made of corrosion-resistant metal, which means they are less likely to leak due to hard water.
EcoSmart tankless water heaters, on the other hand, are made of copper, which means they can corrode quickly. And while they claim to have a lifetime warranty, it's important to read the fine print.
The EcoSmart warranty states: "THESE WARRANTIES DO NOT COVER: Product failure caused by scaling, sediment build-up, chemical corrosion, chlorine/chloride corrosion or freezing."
The Top Tankless Water Heater For 2023
If your EcoSmart corrodes, customer service will tell you to soak the heating components in vinegar every six months (which is a major inconvenience).
As a result, the Internet is full of negative reviews of EcoSmart products, such as this recent Amazon review: “I wish I had never bought this product. I had to replace the heating elements twice in about 3 years at about $250 for parts ($85 for 2 elements) plus labor each time. I spent close to $1000 on this unit and the failures are still coming.
Rheem tankless water heaters are not perfect. However, they consistently receive higher ratings than EcoSmart tankless water heaters. And this is largely due to the build quality.
The Stiebel tankless water heater is priced at $620, $115 more than the Rheem and $145 more than the EcoSmart.

Like the Rheem, the Stiebel Eltron Tempra is made of corrosion-resistant materials. So it is a better choice than EcoSmart.

We do not recommend installing gas boilers (see below for why). But if you absolutely must, we think the Rheem Performance Platinum 8.4 GPM is the best natural gas tankless water heater.
A much better choice for most homeowners is a heat pump water heater, which is considered the most energy efficient water heater available.
