MGM Resorts closes all of its properties on Tuesday, March 17, and the casino floors go dark on Monday. The closures affect Aria, Bellagio, Park MGM, MGM Grand, Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, Vdara, NoMad Hotel, Signature by MGM, Delano, New York-New York, Mirage and Park. The sanatorium houses will not accept bookings until May 1st.
Celebrity chefs affected include Wolfgang Puck of Spago at the Bellagio, Lupo at Mandalay Bay and Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill at the MGM Grand; two Joel Robuchon restaurants at the MGM Grand; Roy Choi's best friend at MGM Park; NoMad Restaurant and NoMad Bar at the NoMad Hotel; Tom Colicchio of Heritage Steak at the Mirage and his Craftsteak restaurant at the MGM Grand; Susan Penniger and Mary Sue Milliken at Border Grill in Mandalay Bay; and four Michael Mina restaurants at MGM resorts.

Wynn Lass has been closing the resort and its sister resort, Darren Lass, since March 17 and plans to review the closure in 10 days, anticipating an April 1 reopening. Last week, the resort decided to close The Buffet at Wyn, as well as XS Nightclub and Encore Beach Club, to prevent the spread of the new corona virus. Elio, the new Mexican restaurant opening at Encore Las by Enrique Olvera, Daniela Soto-Inez and Santiago Pérez of the ATM Group, is set to open on March 21.
So far, Caesars Entertainment has announced no plans to close its properties, including Caesars Palace, Harrah's, Flamingo, The Cromwell, Bally's, Rio, Planet Hollywood Resort and Paris Las. The Las Review-Journal reports that layoffs began Saturday night at the resorts, with a limited number of restaurants and bars remaining open.
According to RJ, the Venetian and Palazzo also have no plans to close, and no layoffs are on the horizon.
Boyd Gaming, which operates 12 Lhasa resorts such as Orleans, Suncoast and Main Street Station, has not announced plans to close, as has Station Casino, which operates Palms, Green Valley Ranch, Red Rock Resort, Palace Station and others. The Nevada Gaming Commission also said it has no plans to close its 440 licensed casinos without restrictions. The next meeting of the committee will be held on Thursday.

Chef José Andrés closed his restaurants in Washington, D.C. and New York over the weekend, and on Monday he closed three of his Las restaurants — Jaleo, China Poblano and é by José Andrés at the Cosmopolitan of Las. Jose Andres' meat bazaar in the Sahara remains open.
Chef David Chong has closed several of his restaurants in Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C., but Momofuku and Milk Bar at the Cosmopolitan of Las and Majordomo Meat & Fish at the Palazzo remain open.
The CDC has advised against public gatherings of more than 50 people for the next eight weeks, prompting the postponement of events, with advice stating: "Events of any size should only continue if they can be held while respecting the guidelines for protecting vulnerable populations, hand hygiene and social distancing. If possible, the organizers will be able to change the events to virtual events."
All of these holiday closures affect restaurant workers when it comes to employment and health. The Culinary Union announced that "the Union Council and the Executive Trustees of the Culinary Health Foundation have agreed to expand health care services during this crisis, even if employees are laid off or work hours are reduced." This includes self-pay and any testing or treatment for the new coronavirus.
