While there are many layers to homelessness, one group I focus on preventing from being next in line is the elderly. Inflation and rising utility prices are causing seniors to suffer from fixed incomes and we don't want our seniors to be abused and end up on the streets.
Last year, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to create a pilot rental subsidy program for seniors at risk of homelessness. See flyer below for all the details.
The Senior Shallow Subsidy Pilot Program is designed to increase housing stability for low-income seniors who, without financial assistance, may be at risk of losing their home. The program will serve approximately 220 households by providing a monthly subsidy of $500 for 18 months.

Millions of Canadians will get more money this year from the federal government as part of its plan to fight inflation, including a $500 payment for nearly a million renters, and up to $766 more for more than three million seniors.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland announced Thursday an $8.9 billion plan to help Canadians deal with record-breaking inflation.
