If you only spend a day in Dublin, you'll be sure to get your hands on all the best things to do!
The itinerary below includes just that...the best things to do in each part of the city while keeping in mind how much time you're likely to spend in each location.
Although Dublin Castle stands very prominently above the Irish capital, it is actually one of the best hidden gems in the city!
It is very common to just stroll past the castle, take a few photos and then go about your day, but it is the beautiful historic rooms and elegant halls of this magnificent architecture that make it so special!
The Best Time To Visit Dublin In 2023
Take a tour for just a few euros and learn about the castle's fascinating history of how it was transformed from a medieval fortress under King John of England, withstood a great fire in 1684 and later assumed the role of a Georgian palace, home to the State Apartments, which you can visit even today.
Located on the popular Dame Street, the castle is also home to two museums, beautiful gardens representing several important figures and depictions through sculptures, as well as several cafes and a library.
You could easily spend a whole day at Dublin Castle learning about its history and enjoying the gardens, but if you're short on time, a few hours or half a day will do just as well!

Dublin's most famous footbridge deserves at least one walk during your time in the Irish capital, even if you don't have two full days.
It connects Dublin city center with the city's northern district, including the famous O'Connell Street shopping district and several other popular attractions.
The Pros And Cons Of Living In Dublin
In the centuries before the Ha'penny Bridge was built, passenger ferries were the main mode of travel along the River Liffey, connecting people between the two separate sides of Dublin.
As history goes, Penny Bridge was the first footbridge to open in Dublin and got its name in a unique way. The ferry operator at the time, William Walsh, agreed with city officials to begin construction of the pier when his ferries needed serious renovations.
His only expression was that he would be allowed to charge a halfpenny toll, giving the bridge its unique name, Ha'penny Bridge!
Today, the bridge is also known as the Liffey Bridge due to its purpose of connecting the two sides of the River Liffey.

Once you've made your way through the new and improved distillery, take a walk around the back over to Smithfield Square (about a minute's walk) where you'll find the Old Jameson Distillery.

This was the original site of Jameson production until it ceased in the 1970s and still stands today as an exciting historic building for visitors.
Tours take you through the distillation process as well as learn about the history of Jameson and its importance to Irish culture. There will of course be tastings!

The factory is designed to take you through a level of floors, each with its own tasting or pouring experience. As you step onto the factory floor, you have the opportunity to sample different flavors of the classic stout, as well as sit and relax as you enjoy your journey through the tower.

Once you've made it to the top, you'll automatically be accepted into the Guinness Academy, where you'll learn how to pour your very own stout!
Now, this takes patience and practice - you're asked to follow their proven "six-step ritual", which includes counting to a specific 119.5 seconds before finishing your perfect pour.
