My first recommendation for any kayaker is to pick up a paddle rope. This recommendation is a mix of kayak accessories and safety items because it is always a good idea to kayak with paddles attached to your kayak. Connecting your paddle to the rowing rope ensures that you won't accidentally capsize or get hit by a strong wave and get stuck in the water with a rapidly sinking paddle.
Having said that, I know very few kayakers who actually started with paddle ropes. So if you're looking for a functional accessory to help you out in a pinch, a paddle strap is the way to go! 2. New upholstery or backrest
Is there anything less comfortable than a kayak chair? I mean they are built to be waterproof more than they are built for comfort, but if you are like me and want to be on the water for a few hours, most kayaks come with a don. Don't cut it on the hammock front.

I want the seat of my kayak to not hurt my butt and lower back no matter how many hours I pedal. And if you're sticking with that idea, you need a new kayak seat.
Now, there are many options to choose from, as the type of seat you want depends on your kayak and the type of kayaking adventure you have, but some recommended ones include:
Have you ever been in your kayak and wondered where to put my water bottle? I have and to be honest the kayak surprisingly has no obvious areas for water storage. I don't know about you, but I usually chug water while kayaking, especially in the summer months, and it's not easy to find a place to sit my water bottle without it falling over or risking a fall.

This cup holder for your kayak is built with clamps so you can mount it wherever you find it most useful. Plus, it has an adjustable seat, which means you can adjust it to any size, and this feature allows it to securely hold bottles between 12-24oz. It is large and can hold a 1L Nalgene, but lacks a cinching feature to compress smaller sizes. But if you use your Nalgene it might work for you.
A spray skirt is a kayak accessory that covers your cockpit and keeps water out. Now, this is only useful for sit-on kayaks (sitting on top doesn't have a cockpit), but if you're (or want to be) a lot of sea kayaking, then a spray skirt is an excellent choice and probably a necessary attachment.
A spray skirt is a must have if you are a winter kayaker. However, if you're a warm-weather kayaker who tends to only paddle in calm water or in calm ocean conditions, you may wonder if you really need a spray skirt.
If you go kayaking anywhere with waves, or anywhere with a large boat with waves, a spray skirt is a very helpful accessory that will make your kayaking trip more comfortable and safer. There is nothing worse than a sudden big wave flooding your kayak. It's not easy to keep your kayak dry while you're pedaling, so a spray skirt helps you get into that position in the first place. 5. Kayak cooler
Kayak Fishing Accessories That Will Make A Difference
If you're someone who likes to take the party out on the water while you're kayaking (or you really just like yourself plenty of snacks and drinks... no judgment here), then a kayak cooler is the perfect kayak accessory.
This cooler attaches to the back of your chair, meaning anything you want to take with you, you'll always have easy access to. It's great for kayak fishing that goes out for a few hours on each paddle, or for a fun summer kayak trip where you'll be on the water for a while.
Like getting hot. Really hot. When you are in open water, and the sun is shining brightly on you
By reflecting off the water you begin to feel the sun more than you would if you were on land.
The Paddle Accessories You Never Knew You Needed
That's why preventing heat stroke or kayaking fatigue is so important. So if you tend to overheat, you might consider buying a kayak sunshade to protect you from the sun and make your kayaking trips cooler and safer.
There are actually two types of sun protection to consider. The former have metal connectors and are more sturdy and hardly affected by wind. It's a bit heavy, which makes pedaling more difficult. The latter uses a non-metallic fastener, which is lighter, but more vulnerable to air. They are less expensive, just be sure not to use them on a windy day unless you want your kayak to turn into a sailboat.
One of my favorite activities is kayaking, which isn't actually kayaking. I love pedaling to beautiful places and just sitting there. I put my feet out of the kayak, sat in my chair, and relaxed a bit in the sun.
The problem is that unless I am anchored, my kayak will drift ashore. So, one minute I'm basking in the sun and the next minute I'm battling brambles and cobwebs that have drifted away. I don't have this problem with kayak anchors because it doesn't matter where I set up where I live. It makes my rest more relaxed. 8. Paddle drip ring

Drip rings are a kayak accessory that's a small, inexpensive tool that can really enhance your kayaking trip. A drip ring attaches to your paddle to prevent water from running down the handle and getting your hands and your lap wet.
Now, many paddles come with drip rings, but that doesn't mean they come with them
Drop ring. On my first paddle I found my hands wet despite the drip ring. But having a drip ring that actually does the job of keeping your hands dry can really help with grip and prevent blisters and other ailments like kayaker's thumb. If you want a really inexpensive way to spice up your pedaling experience, you'll want to pick up some paddle drip rings. 9. Kayak carrier handle
Carrying a kayak is neither easy nor comfortable. Unless you've invested in a roller kayak, you know how difficult it can be to get a kayak from your car to the launch site and back, especially if you're kayaking. That's where the kayak carrier handle comes in.

Handles (or handles) attach to your kayak to give you a real grip to help you pick up and carry your kayak. There is no need to try to figure out how to hold the kayak while picking it up, as it has a special grip to help you out.
The only downside is that it has to be drilled into your kayak, so it's a pretty permanent addition. However, since hauling your kayak is something you always have to do, it's worth it. 10. Dog traction pads
Do you love taking your furry friend's kayak with you? If so, you've probably watched what I like to call the Kayak Dog Scramble. It is a kayak dog that constantly slips and balances all it has to do to stay upright. And while this shuffling is a bit funny to watch, it's much better to have a stable place for the rower and pups to stand in the boat.
Kayak Dog Traction Pads are non-slip pads that sit inside your kayak so that your dog's feet do not slide around in the kayak. This allows the shuffle to stop and balance better, making your stroke easier.
