These days, the latest model Dell XPS 13 and Apple Macbook Pro are becoming popular for productivity work. Both laptops are high-end premium laptops for great performance. So, here you can see which one is the best in each test.
In terms of design, the XPS 13 really feels like the next generation. Apple and Dell took the same chassis as the previous model and put some newer hardware inside, but the XPS is a good deal. It's thinner and lighter, has slim bezels, and overall is a much more compact and portable machine. Both have top-notch build quality, yet with an aluminum chassis, they can be opened with a finger. Although unlike the Ultra HD model, the full HD version of the XPS has a slightly cheaper plastic bezel, as opposed to the glossy finish we have on the bezels, although they are thicker on the Macbook.
Now, an important difference between these two is the screens. The Dell comes in two flavors; Full HD Plus and Ultra HD Plus, while the Macbook Pro strives for something of a happy medium with a quad HD resolution, but both have a 16-by-10 aspect ratio. bottom is the screen which, in my opinion, makes a big difference, especially on these smaller 13-inch notebooks. Importantly, if you opt for the Dell's 1080p version, it's a bit cheaper, and you also get nearly twice the battery life of the 4K model, which is a pretty big deal. The downside is that it's not as sharp as 4K, it's not as color accurate, and it's also not a touchscreen, but I think Apple strikes a good balance between screen clarity and battery life.

Doing the tests along the way, I noticed some additional advantages on the Mac. Firstly, although it has a fan unlike the Macbook Air, it is consistently much quieter and also much cooler than the Dell. In fact, while playing Fortnite, the XPS 9310's surface reached 45 degrees Celsius with the fans clearly spinning, but on the Macbook Pro, it was barely quiet enough to measure just 34 degrees Celsius. You also have the option to install some iPhone and iPad apps. It still doesn't seem to have many of the popular ones, but that could be a huge selling point.
The Apple Macbook Pro is the most expensive Dell 350 with the most powerful i7 having twice the RAM of the Macbook. So that has a little bit of an edge to it. The Apple Macbook Pro has the M1 chip, which is Apple's latest and fastest chip, and the XPS 9310 has an updated high-end Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor. Testing with Cinebench R23 on single core, Mac is only 7% faster but 63% faster on multi-core. Geekbench 5 now offers CPU testing of specific Intel and Apple architectures. Mac is 13% faster in single core and 45% faster in multi-core.
I think video editing is a more likely use of these laptops in the real world. I've tested these laptops by loading the same 10-minute 4K 30 timeline in Premiere Pro as well as Final Cut Pro and the results are mesmerizing. We're looking at 25 and 31 minutes for XPS and Mac respectively. In DaVinci Resolve Studio 17 Beta, the Macbook Pro completes the rendering in half the time of the XPS and finally, in Final Cut, it only works on Mac, as it cannot run on Windows. If you work in Premiere Pro, Dell is the best choice, but for DaVinci and Final Cut users, definitely choose Macbook Pro.
In Geekbench's OpenCL graphics test, the Mac again wins with a 6% advantage over the Dell. So the Macbook Pro is faster overall, although the huge multi-core boost isn't surprising given the fact that we have an eight-core CPU here versus a quad-core in the Dell XPS with the Intel chip. The fact is that the Macbook Pro, at least in these tests, is much more powerful.
Dell Xps 9300 Vs Macbook Pro 13
We've seen about benchmarks, but what about real-world usage. When we tested some games that admittedly aren't the Mac's strong point, we're still quite limited by the range of games that will run on macOS, but the games are Full HD with pretty ambitious high settings. The Macbook Pro averaged 24 FPS versus 20 FPS on the Dell XPS 9310. Interestingly though, the results are reversed in Turtle War: Three Kingdoms where the Macbook Pro scores an average FPS of 19 for the Dell XPS 9310 is 25 We played Fortnite on Full HD high settings and this is where the Mac really gets ahead with 42 FPS against 27 for the XPS 9310 which was also much more inconsistent. It's amazing how well the emulator software works on Mac considering that in most cases it is quite a bit faster than the native application on Windows machine, but while overall the performance on mac is very impressive it can be a little inconsistent. Most games struggle to load.
In terms of gaming, the Xe graphics on the XPS 9310 are a huge step up from previous Intel UHD chips, and most importantly, we have a much larger library of games available on Windows. So while none of these are gaming laptops, I think the Dell is the better choice.
Battery life that lasts longer and starts with youtube in their respective most optimized browsers like Safari on Mac and Edge on XPS. After an hour, the XPS dropped to 86% battery versus 92% on the MacBook. So after another hour of zoom calls we're down to 68% on the XPS and 79% on the Macbook Pro, but then we switch to gaming and we're looking at 29 and 44 on the XPS and Mac respectively, and finally spending an hour using office applications, the XPS drops to just 7%, with a whopping 30% left on the MacBook.
The crazy thing about this Dell XPS is that the Full HD version of the XPS lasts about twice as long as the 4K model, but it still can't keep up with the M1-powered Macbook Pro. So in terms of pure online video playback, we're looking at 9 hours
