Free Enrichment Activities For Elementary Students - Today I want to share with you an idea of how I plan themed events for my girls. I'm keeping it pretty simple and I REALLY believe you can too! My daughters are two and four years old, and although both (to some extent) attend kindergarten, I am in favor of implementing enrichment activities that will help ignite their love of learning and lay a strong foundation for their success in school. I also LOVE watching them learn, getting excited about teaching them, and I want to be a part of the FUN! Oh and as my motto says, "I live motherhood with an engaging game every time" - TRUTH!
Free Enrichment Activities For Elementary Students
FIRST… Preschool Ready Checklists! I like to call it BASIC! Checklist of things your child should know before starting kindergarten. Now I want to point out that there are no hard and fast guidelines for kindergarten preparation, only guidelines to help you identify the skills and knowledge that will help you prepare your little one for kindergarten. And again, as outlined in these checklists, these are recommendations for kindergarten starters. So please remember that when we make a project, we build it piece by piece and of course with lots of iterations to achieve these goals. And if you're new here, I'm totally into EXPOSURE! Bring up the topic, chat, put them in front of them, they may not be ready yet but you never know what they're sucking up.
Effective Vocabulary Activities
You can Google the "pre-kindergarten/kindergarten readiness checklist", ask your school district if they have one, and check out this I created for some ideas. Learn the "basics" and go from there.
Themes for me next! Why do I love using themes? We all know that young learners need to repeatedly expose and apply new ideas/skills, that's KEY! Using themes helps change things up and makes them want to do more than one "lettering practice"! Themes also help make connections between subject areas and help children begin to dig deeper and make connections between experiences. AND for me using themes makes project planning easier.
And finally, that brings us to PLANNING! Now that we're familiar with basic preschool preparation skills and have a theme in mind, we're ready to brainstorm a variety of activities we can pick and pull off throughout the week to involve our little ones in learning and having fun! I like to plan a variety of activities keeping in mind different skill areas to make sure I acquire a variety of skills to be in school. One way to do this is to list the "main skill areas" and then write down thematic tasks that fall into these categories.
Another way to do this (remember, this is enrichment) is bingo board style! Write down 20 ideas for each month or theme, then choose 1 or two per day to complete.

And if you want to go a step further and plan 3 or 5 full activity days, why not use this simple lesson plan template? Every day, literacy activity, math activity, and something hands-on (craft, science, sensory, field trip, etc.)
And it's a wrap! After writing all my ideas, I start collecting the materials we need and we are ready for the week. I don't have specific days to do everything, instead I pull it off the list so we can have various themed events throughout the week. Most of the time I use this as a morning task or "after a nap" and just go with the flow! Enrichment aims to foster a love of learning, develop basic skills and have FUN!

We tend to think about life on the farm when new baby animals are born and crops are planted in the spring, with the local farm stall or harvesting our own produce in the summer, and again when we go to a farm in the fall. pumpkin field / tractor ride / or corn maze.
Farms are fascinating not only for children but also for adults. It feels like we're going back to our roots, where our food came from. Kids enjoy learning how seeds become the plants we harvest and eat, and seeing them in nice neat rows as they grow. Sometimes this can encourage kids to try new vegetables, from potatoes to sweet potatoes, corn to lettuce/spinach, carrots to beets, peas to beans, and more. Plus, the farm equipment is super cool, with giant green John Deere tractors, combines and machines watering the fields. Finally, do not forget about all the animals that live on the farm - children love how to milk cows, ride horses, caress sheep, feed goats, see silly llamas, caress rabbits and collect eggs. from chickens.

Math Enrichment Activities
Each page of creative writing messages includes a collage that kids can paint with crayons, colored pencils, felt-tip pens or gel pens. Or, in some cases, an empty space for children to draw their own pictures. Then there's a sentence in writing in kindergarten, or a question that creative writing raises for freshman year.
