According to PropertyShark, $200,000 will get you just 126 square feet in New York City's Manhattan area and just 260 square feet in San Francisco. Both houses will be smaller than the average apartment in the United States.
To provide some context, the median home price in Fort Worth during the first quarter of this year was $267,500, according to the Texas Association of Realtors. That's 34 percent above PropertyShark's hypothetical price of $200,000.
Despite relatively cheap housing prices in Fort Worth and other major cities in the state, some Texans still have a hard time buying a place to live.
"Unemployment rates and downward spirals in home values were not as bad in Texas during the national economic recession as in other parts of the country. But large urban areas of the state still experience similar disparities between housing and income as other U.S. metropolitan areas," the Texas Tribune reported in 2017.

Kaki Lybbert, a Denton Realtor who heads the Texas Association of Realtors, applauds the state's robust home sales activity but worries that if home inventory continues to decline while prices continue to rise, "we may continue to see affordability challenges across the state."
Among the five largest cities in Texas, San Antonio homebuyers can score the biggest digs for $200,000, PropertyShark says. For that price, you can get a 3,249-square-foot home in the Alamo City.
This hypothetical $200,000 home is not far from the typical price of a home in the San Antonio metropolitan area. In the first quarter of this year, the average home price in the region was $218,250, according to the Texas Association of Realtors.
At the other end of the scale, $200,000 will get you the least space in Austin among the state's five largest home markets, according to PropertyShark. For that price, you can buy a house measuring 1,341 square meters.

However, the median home price in the Austin metro area was $315,000 in the first quarter of this year, the Texas Association of Realtors says. That's 57 percent higher than PropertyShark's hypothetical $200,000 home.
Meanwhile, a Houston homebuyer can pick up a 2,093-square-foot home for $200,000, PropertyShark says. In the first quarter of 2018, the median home price in the Houston metro area was $239,043, the Texas Association of Realtors says.
Interestingly, the hypothetical $200,000 houses in Fort Worth, San Antonio and Houston are larger than the average houses in those areas. Only Austin's hypothetical $200,000 home was less than the region's average home.
Texans are "fortunate to live in some of the most spacious urban housing in the nation," says PropertyShark.
