Apple refreshed the 13-inch MacBook Pro in June 2022, adding an Apple-designed Arm-based "M2" chip to replace the previous M1 chip. The M2 MacBook Pro is sold alongside the high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro M2 Pro and M2 Max models, and is considered the entry-level model in the MacBook Pro lineup.

The M2 chip is Apple's second System on a Chip for Mac that integrates the CPU, GPU, RAM, and more all at once. The M2 has an 8-core processor with four high-efficiency cores and an integrated GPU with four high-performance cores with up to 10 cores.

Zoom out and it's hard to see where this model fits into Apple's portfolio. The most direct rival to this entry-level Pro isn't the more premium version, but the MacBook Air.
