Macbook For College Students 2020 - By Matthew Boozy Matthew Boozy Senior Analyst, Hardware Experience I am a PC professional with a special love for PC gaming. I've played games on my computer for as long as I can remember, which eventually (like most) led me to build and upgrade my own desktop. Apple's MacBook Air has been a favorite among popular, ultraportables for years, but has only received occasional, low-profile updates. We like the updated version for early 2020, but its keyboard update aside, it's not a revolutionary version. The performance of the MacBook Air has always been second to none in terms of price and size, but that trend has changed with the introduction of Apple's M1 processor. Along with its new "Big Sur" OS update, Apple stopped using Intel processors for a long time for this native silicon solution, and in doing so, breathed new life into the MacBook Air (while retaining its original design ). The MacBook Air was launched alongside the new 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac Mini, and runs on the M1 system-on-a-chip (SoC). All of them are interesting, but the update of the MacBook Air is the most interesting. At $999 (as tested), it's the best value among Mac laptops, especially when combined with nearly 30 hours of battery life and a high-end processor. Surpassing its predecessors, the M1-based MacBook is our top Apple laptop for 2020.

Surprisingly for one of the most popular computers in the world, the design of the new MacBook Air is familiar. Not much has changed from the previous model externally, it will be difficult to tell the two apart from the shell. It still comes in three color options: Space Grey, Gold and Silver. The all-metal design is solid and high-quality, still delivering the envy-inducing MacBook years after its release.
Apple Ipad Pro Vs. Macbook Air: Which Is Best For Back To School?
All that to say: the MacBook Air has one of the best portable constructions of any kind. It measures 0.63 by 11.97 by 8.36 inches (HWD) and weighs 2.8 pounds, one of the thinnest and lightest laptops around. Some Windows laptops beat it in weight (the touchless version of the Dell XPS 13 and the 2.4-pound ThinkPad X1 Carbon, to name two high-end examples), but once you're under 3 pounds, the real difference is the world is. small enough for any student to use. The need to go to class, or a business professional who takes it on their daily commute, will find it a great travel companion. You will not find it in your pocket, living in the air in its name.
We focused on the keyboard for the previous MacBook Air review, and for good reason. Apple has finally replaced the dusty butterfly keyboard with broken keys with its new Magic Keyboard. The latter is back here again, offering a better typing experience than butterfly keyboards and avoiding the pitfalls that mar the butterfly system.

On the Magic Keyboard, each key has a rubber dome and shift adjustment (an old style, but time-proven) that creates a bouncier typing experience and more key travel. Since this is not new in this laptop, it does not mean that it is the main pro of this model, but it is still a good inclusion.
In addition, the Touch ID sensor in the upper right corner of the keyboard allows you to turn on the laptop and log in with your fingerprint, putting the need for passwords on the back. The MacBook Air doesn't have the Touch Bar option that the MacBook Pro has, which means you get a physical eject button in the upper left corner of the keyboard. Some buyers will consider this as a plus; The touch panel is flexible.
Getting into a sophisticated keyboard is the best feature of any laptop, which shouldn't be news to any previous MacBook user. As for the keyboard, it's nothing special on this MacBook Air model, but if you're upgrading from an older machine or switching from a Windows laptop, it'll feel like a big upgrade. For one, the touchpad is large for the size of the entire laptop, giving you plenty of room for maneuvering and maneuvering.
Apple Back To School 2023: When And What Is Apple's Back To Uni Deal This Year?
More importantly, though, the touchpad feels very smooth and responsive when tapping and tapping, thanks to its haptics. This means that you will get the same response from clicking and clicking no matter where you click on the touchpad, because it responds digitally. It's a satisfying and responsive touch, making it a great laptop for working in a coffee shop or on an airplane without a mouse. (Becomes a daily occurrence again when you work in cafes and 737s.)
The next display lights up as before. Apple's 13.3-inch Retina display is used again here, offering 2,560 by 1,600 pixels in a 16:10 aspect ratio. That's slightly higher than the full HD (1,920-by-1,080-pixel) resolution found on most mainstream laptops, but still less than 4K. The latter is usually reserved for high-end content-producing laptops (and desktops) that can benefit from a larger number of pixels, but it's battery life and cost. For MacBook Air for general use and light work, the resolution of the Retina display is sharp.
The display is excellent, although the bezels aren't as important as some competing Windows laptops, most notably the Dell XPS 13. The black bezel looks dated, but that's not a deal breaker. This screen doesn't have HDR support, or an OLED option (which appears on Windows computers), but it does come with Apple's True Tone technology, which adjusts the display's white balance to match ambient light. It can be fun and easy on your eyes, although you can completely disable it in System Preferences if you want.
As always, Apple has not included touch technology in its computer display. He sticks to the phone and tablet area, drawing a straight line in the sand between the sides, unlike the overlap between the other areas. The keyboard on the MacBook Pro is closer to the touch screen on Apple laptops. Perhaps in the future Apple will find a reason to make the leap, but for now macOS is still an untouched place. This is an advantage for Windows machines, although many PC users will still pass on the option of a touch screen. This enables more work on certain devices, such as flexible 2-in-1 or professional content production machines.
The 9 Best Laptops Of 2023
Before going into the performance and processor details, let me say that on a more general level, everything has resulted in a very happy work experience. Apps and browsers run quickly through multiple programs and tabs, and wake up quickly. The touch screen and keyboard are fun to use, or the laptop is easy to use with one arm. As for the display, the colors pop and the textures are sharp. The Big Sur macOS upgrade makes this computer even better, and you should check out Big Sur's in-depth review for those details. In addition, since the laptop does not include a cooling agent, it is a very quiet system.
Finally, we come to the design of the port. MacBook Air has a 720p front-facing webcam, which is more important than ever
