Warranty Rated 1 out of 5 by Donavan from useless Don't set up a 12 year warranty as a sign of quality or safety. (Trust me this is not a good sign) Note that the warranty is based on the date of manufacture, not the date it was put into service. The warranty also does not cover work, and you must first have a plumber verify that the tank cannot be repaired. Later you may have to pay for the return of the plumber if the product is not available or another visit is required. In my case, both Home Depot locations in my area did not have a replacement tank for over a week and had to special order the tank. If you don't have an extended warranty with "Home Depot" and your tank is 5 or 6 years old just have a plumber bring in a larger tank with a tag and pay to install the tank. I had a problem and bad experience with GE warranty service I found that there was absolutely no cost savings in trying to use this limited warranty. Hopefully my experience will help you in your next purchase decision.
Rated 5 out of 5 by TomTom1359 No problems 13 months later I purchased and installed this GE water heater in December 2012. I did a lot of research online before purchasing this type of heater. It is actually manufactured by RIM, not GE. RIM has a reputation for quality water heaters and gas furnaces. I'm not sure why it carries the GE logo, it's a bit confusing. I had to spend about 6 hours installing the unit, which included draining the water, removing the old heater and removing the copper water pipes because I was not happy with their position. The heater burns out easily and I haven't had any problems since then I also looked at consumer reports magazine and they say most water heater brands are similar in quality but you should buy the heater with the longest warranty in the brand because they are usually done. so long. done I also want a heater that has a simple anode because I plan to replace the anode every few years. My old kettle was a Bradford White that worked perfectly for 24 years. I considered replacing it with some Bradford White but the anodes are hard to get into. They are now sold by plumbing contractors. I also considered a tankless water heater but they don't make much sense in Canadian climates because they have to be big enough to heat the cold water coming into them instantly. They are expensive, not DIY friendly to install so you need a plumber to do the job and they need periodic maintenance. Although they are more fuel efficient, the additional cost of purchase and installation does not make financial sense.

The province of BC and the federal government offer rebates on furnaces and hot water heaters if they meet certain energy standards. To qualify water heaters must have an EF (Efficiency Efficiency) of either 0.8, 0.82 or greater than 0.86. How does this pot of water rank?
