A northern weather forecast called for 6 to 10 inches of snow in the San Gabriel Mountains above 5,000 feet and up to a foot of snow in the Riverside, San Bernardino Mountains. and San Diego counties.

The National Weather Service says the cold weather will bring snow to elevations of up to 2,500 feet and could leave up to 2 inches of snow on mountain passes in the Interstate 5. mountains.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the mountain areas of San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego counties, predicting heavy snowfall and wind gusts of 30 mph to 60 mph in some areas.
In the mountains of Los Angeles County, 2 to 5 inches of snow was forecast between 3,000 and 4,500 feet, with 4 to 8 inches of snow at higher elevations.
Nearly Entire Population Of California Expected 'to See' Snow
Parts of the high desert are also expected to get snow: up to 3 inches at the base of Antelope Valley and an inch between Snow Trail and the valley floor around Palmdale.
"Some people who aren't used to snow will probably get a chance to see some snow," Sweet said.
Elsewhere in the state, the weather brought rain to the Central Valley and fresh snow to the Sierra Nevada. After 10 days of snow, about 0.8 inches of snow fell Sunday morning at UC Berkeley's Central Sierra Snow Lab in Donner Pass, and more was falling.
After storms in the first half of January gave California the heaviest snow in years, the new snowfall brought more light to the Sierra snowpack. Snowfall equivalent to the Sierra Nevada snowpack is now 214% of this year's average, representing a significant increase in California's water supply after three years of severe drought.

Katrina Hand, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento, said the snowfall in this latest weather system "isn't too shocking compared to what we saw in the first half of January." She said 3 to 8 inches of snow is expected in mountain passes, with higher amounts at higher elevations.
The storm is expected to move south of the Southern California coast Monday night, leaving the mountains covered in snow under clear skies through Tuesday.

Epic Winter Storm Turns Southern California Snow White
Residents of Los Angeles and Ventura counties living in the mountains above the city of Los Angeles are advised to travel only in case of an emergency, as the area could be hit with gusts up to 75 mph with heavy snow and reduced visibility. A blizzard and winter storm is expected to develop through Saturday afternoon, with 2 to 7 feet of snow accumulating through Saturday night, with up to 12 inches in heights.
Rain is expected in some areas on Thursday and Friday. The Los Angeles NWS said it knows of another blizzard warning issued for the area in 1989 on a Wednesday.
Light snow has begun to fall on Interstate 5's Wine Mountain Pass, which connects the Los Angeles area to central California, the weather service said.

Winter weather and winter storm advisories are in effect for San Bernardino and Riverside counties further inland from Los Angeles and for San Diego County further south.
Wind gusts up to 50 mph are expected with low temperatures in the low 20s in some areas of the Bay Area, the NWS said.
Residents are advised to move susceptible plants and pets indoors to protect them from freezing temperatures and prevent pipes from leaking outdoors.
Eureka, Redding, Chico and other Northern California communities were under winter storm watches, watches or winter weather advisories Wednesday.
