Food Handlers Card Las Vegas Nv - On this week's Dirty Meal Program, Health District inspectors found an employee who defrauded the food safety program.
Effective July 1, 2018, applicants for a Food Safety Training Card will be required to complete an exam at a Southern Nevada Health District facility during business hours to receive their card. The current program, which will end on July 1, requires applicants to complete training and testing on computers.

The test teaches about safe food handling, temperatures, cross contamination, dishwashing, hand washing and pest control. But back in 2014, Contact 13 identified a problem with the current system that went live almost two years earlier. With online testing, there are no checks and balances, no way to make sure the person taking the test is actually doing it.

In fact, the Health District caught people doing business with screening in 2014.
"And it's very clear if you think about who they tested in the area and they don't wash their hands, they carry safe food," said the District Health worker at the time.
The director told Contact 13 in 2014 that they rely on the honor system. The Health District issues more than 100,000 food handling cards annually. Watch a video from the 2014 report below.
The new program provides free training materials and allows the Health District to effectively verify the identity of all applicants as they complete the program and demonstrate basic food safety knowledge. Exams and training materials will be offered in multiple languages to meet the needs of all Food Manager Training Card customers.

With a large tourism industry in places like Las Vegas, SNHD must ensure that a large number of employees are qualified to handle food safely. Online rate card renewal allows voters to complete the renewal process in their own time, eliminating the need to wait for a physical appointment. Previous personal need was not supported by restaurant workers due to irregular working hours and the need to take personal leave. The training and testing materials are in 20 different languages to make it easier for those with limited English skills to really understand the safety principles, thus increasing their chances of passing the test on their first attempt.
Paying for the card online and printing a PDF copy of the certificate is easy and intuitive. All major credit and debit cards are accepted. Since the project's launch this summer, nearly 6,000 cards have been updated online.

The review process usually takes about 30 minutes. Voters can now renew their cards in 10 minutes. Travel time and cost are also calculated through the online process.
SNHD staff shortages limited the number of daily appointments that could be made. The online system allows SNHD staff to focus on providing better service to those who want to come in person to get their cards. On hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, food safety training will begin Monday, according to the Southern Nevada Health District.
New applicants will have the card until December 31. Food benefits will not be ineligible if the first applicant works without the card, according to SNHD news.
Appointments for customers seeking a renewal or duplicate card will be available after Jan. 1. Renewed applicants will not pay a late fee, and businesses will not receive a waiver from employees with an expired card. The suspension of the regulation will expire on June 30. Starting July 1, benefits will be given to workers who do not follow the rules and do not have a current food handling training card.
