How To Start A Fashion Blog - Fashion blogs may not be as popular as they used to be, but I have a lot to share about my journey and answer any questions you may have about how to start your own fashion blog.
This topic was created as an idea for a video (surprise), so I wrote a 10-minute blog about fashion blogging, including how I do it.

How To Start A Fashion Blog And Earn Money Online?
My love for fashion led me to read my first fashion blog in 2008. I was fascinated by a city girl who shared her styles online and I wanted to do the same.
In 2014, Pinterest came along and changed my life. A whole new world of links, guides and tips suddenly hit me and I spent months pouring over them and learning more about blogging.
I spent about 5 years posting nothing but clothes on an old Story and thanks to what I learned on Pinterest, I was ready to try blogging for "real".
I wanted to jump right into rebranding, but it took me four months of brainstorming before I came up with The Outfit Repeater.

Pinterest also encouraged me to manage myself to become an owner. I had no idea what that meant, but I took the leap and bought Namecheap hosting and started blogging on WordPress.org.
Some days I feel bad about my hosting, but it's the best thing I could do for my blogging career. I think I was old myself
So what I need to change. It was so boring! A blog with nothing but clothes to wear might seem like a good idea, but I often try to link every piece of clothing to my life story, which doesn't work because my life is boring. How much weather can one girl talk about?!
So I went back to Pinterest to decide what to do. I had a great feeling that it wasn't my clothes that were bringing me down, but what I was writing about.

After consuming tons of fashion magazines, tutorials, and great fashion bloggers, I decided to stop being a "personal" blogger and choose a blog that is useful to others.
I came up with the motto "your girl who loves everything" which helped me to make sure that everything I owned was somehow about growth or fashion. I'm excited to take my blog in this new direction! What I started to change was making people feel important and more of what I wanted to say was fashion!
After establishing myself, writing information and building a team, I was ready to contact sponsors. I use Pinterest to figure out what I want to do and how I want to do it. Although I have spent the last year and a half working on this blog project, you may be surprised to know that I have only had a regular sponsor for 6 months.
In a perfect world, I'd like to be compensated for all my work, but sometimes I'm involved in an unpaid contract. It's very controversial and I often yell at them."

The only time it's okay to go unpaid is when you love a brand so much you can promote them for free, even if they don't know you! Doing so is great for developing skills, recognition, growth and connection as an expert in your field.
Now I feel comfortable telling strangers that blogging is my job. A great place to share ideas and talk about fashion. That's all I wanted!
And while I've said before that fashion blogs are on the decline, I think it's important not to feel alone in life and online. You may not be the popular choice, but by staying true to yourself, you will find your people along the way and eventually begin to attract others.
That's how trends happen.. Unpopular people doing unpopular things and then someone sees it and wants to try it and BOOM, a trend is born.

Comparing a blog/website to an app like Instagram is unfair because it's like comparing apples to oranges. People use these two methods for different reasons.
Instagram is great for dipping your toes into blogging and trying your hand at microblogging. You can share digestible content, all your work is on the same page, and it's easy to interact with the community.
But I also believe that blogging has many advantages that Instagram does not. For starters, you can become a hub of information for people in your field, it's easy to share articles outside of the same platform, write long articles with inline and embedded links, have a search box and it's easy to browse past, Google can index your site and Give your content a long time, never forget that you have nothing and Instagram can't delete it in the blink of an eye. (Can you imagine life without Instagram? Scary!)
Blogging is great. There is no right or wrong way to do it, that's the beauty of blogging! We're all just a bunch of people trying to figure out what's going on inside our brains. Some do well, some do poorly, some succeed and some drop out. But you never know until you try!

One of the most important things for successful bloggers is to learn to identify the type of fashion blogger. Just like music, there are different types of music. Think about it: why would a heavy metal band try to headline a country music festival?
Take a good look at what's in your closet, think about the clothes you wear all the time and try to "write" your style - whether you dress shy like Kylie Jenner or you're successful and stylish like Kate Moss ? It's important to explain this because it defines your audience from price to age and quality.
Now that you've established your style and niche, take the time to find anywhere between 5-10 influencers and bloggers that you can identify with. No more, no. Too little inspo and you can't capture any ideas. Too much, and you'll be disappointed. Reduce it.
Your models not only act as visual inspiration, but they also act as business advisors (surprisingly, you didn't know that - but they helped you too). Watching them on blogs and social media will show you some of the strategies they use to build an audience, generate sales, and work with a brand.
