Adult Daily Living Skills (also known as Community Integration Services) provides participants with a variety of experiences and learning opportunities to achieve maximum independence in the following areas: community, home/living, recreation, pre-vocational training, functional education and self-management Vaz Based on identified needs and preferences, various service options are available through our Community Integration Services Department. Programming is available full-time or part-time to develop, maintain and utilize a variety of functional skills. Training is provided in a small group format or on an individual basis and may be facility and/or community based.
Adult Living Skills courses provide training in a facility or in the community in workshops or at home to participants who have requested additional education or living skills training. Live Skills Tutors will prepare activities, learning aids and implement lesson plans tailored to the individual needs and preferences of participants as outlined in their Individual Support Plan. Instructors use resource materials, instructional tools, supplies, equipment, and activities that are culturally appropriate and age appropriate. Community activities are planned to promote socialization, community connections and friendships. Expected results are individual for each participant.
The Life Skills Day Program provides facilitated or community-based daily living skills training to participants who are unable or uninterested in proactive training. The day program offers many of the same service goals and activities as the adult daily living skills classes. Training is offered in a small group format or on an individual basis and can be full-time or part-time. Settings for the program include classrooms, simulated apartments, industrial fields, and various public spaces.
Life Skills — Inclusion Fusion
OBRA provides special services available to individuals who live in a long-term care facility. These services must be provided outside of the nursing facility and must support education and assistance in the areas of: self-care, sensory/motor development, socialization, daily living skills, communication, community living, and social skills. Community activities aim to build relationships and natural supports.
The Lif-T Program, or Life Transition Program, provides functional portable programming and establishes the supports and services necessary to facilitate an individual's successful movement through a major life transition. Individuals eligible to receive services through the Lif-T program must fall into one of the following categories: transition from school to work or after-school programming, transition from work to retirement, learning to cope with a new diagnosis or progressive illness, transition to a disability to tolerate a full 8-hour work day or those new to pre-professional programming. This program is currently offered in Shelby County.
Older adults with intellectual disabilities have the same age-related problems as other older adults. However, many program participants choose to continue some form of vocational or day program activities as they age. Giving them a master's program allows them to retire. The MASTERS program offers support that allows participants to maintain employment and continue active daytime programming for as long as they are interested and able. The program was implemented not only to meet the needs of the aging population with intellectual disabilities, but also those who cannot tolerate the 8-hour workday. By breaking the day into smaller, more manageable activities, instructors are able to keep the participant focused on the task at hand. This program is currently offered to group home residents in Hancock County.

Adulting 101 For Teens
One of the few inclusive programs of its kind in the country, PAWS – which is part of the University of Missouri-St. LOUIS - Will promote vocational skills, independent living skills and social skills for a population that is significantly underemployed and underpaid compared to the general public.
"Our goal is to provide people who previously felt isolated from the community with opportunities to build meaningful relationships with their peers, recognize their strengths and talents, and provide them with the skills they need to successfully enter in the workforce," said the Magee Center, LAPI Program. Transitioning Training And Coaching For Young Adults

The two-year program will allow participants to take PAWS-specific classes that will focus on vocational skills, healthy relationships and sex, disability history and self-advocacy, independent living and social skills. Additionally, participants may have the opportunity to take traditional MU classes, including courses in public speaking, theater, financial planning and human development.
"We continue to hear from parents and school districts asking for this type of program, and it's special to be one of the few universities to offer it," Kendra said. "The short-term benefits will give these students opportunities to live with their peers, have roommates, decide if they want to join clubs or attend sporting events, and get the full college experience." Long-term benefits include self-protection and confidence for work and society include independent living.
