A short but steep climb to the Lanikai Pillboxes in Kailua offers an incredible view of the sunrise on the twin islands of Mokulua ("Mokes") that emerge from the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Grab your headlights first because the road is popular during the day. The climb takes about 30 minutes to reach the "First Box", a World War II tomb, and another 15 minutes to the Second Box. Across Kaneohe on the windward side of Oahu around some curves you will see Kualoa Beach Park. Take a look at an island called Chinese Hat under a palm tree.
