At its Friday meeting, the GSG of the University of Maryland voted to support a proposal that would include some mandatory tuition for undergraduate and graduate students.

These fees put students living on small grants at a disadvantage when considering the cost of living in the region, said GSG President Tamara Allard, who is studying for a doctorate in developmental psychology.
The GSG has approved a special election later this month until early next month.
"We still have a lot of open seats," said GSG representative Daniel Smolyak, a computer science doctoral student. "That's what it means."
The special election will help fill 75 percent of GSG assembly seats - or 181 of the 240 seats - left vacant as per the decision.
