Progressive was one of the first insurance companies to launch a website (in 1995!), and was also one of the first to offer comparison shopping.
So Advanced has really been one step ahead of the customer experience curve for decades. But now that insurtech startups like Lemonade have joined the fray with low-price-first plans, can progressives really find the best rates? What is their coverage? Is the improved user experience still reliable?
This is what I wanted to know. So I did what I always do when I test insurance providers that I've heard good things about. I built real home insurance from top to bottom starting with my coverage.

But something you may not know is that Progressive works with 13 other insurance companies, including nationwide, so it's likely that the coverage I'm sharing with you will vary from company to company.

In other words, it does not take prices from the market at large. It matches your insurance profile with the best product among these plans and the plans of 13 companies it works with.

Another thing I want to point out is that HomeQuote Explorer only gave me an outline of my quote. I had to finalize the details with the agent. So there are no instant rates and allowances.
The Home Coat Explorer did a really neat trick that I really liked. He asked me to choose from three priorities before raising my premium: "low rate", "more coverage" and "both are important". I found this very helpful because even if I can't get to the bottom of my policy online with Progressive, I can at least get a sense of the range of rates I'm looking at.
