Vehicles are often the most expensive items at these auctions and there are around 300 of them on site. There are retired police vehicles, civilian vehicles, trucks, motorcycles, fire engines and even prisoner transport vehicles, all up for auction. During the public preview, you are allowed to look inside the vehicle and under the hood, and you can start the engine and rev, but you cannot take a test drive.
13 Action News spoke to a man named Tony who said he's been going to government surplus auctions for years to buy vehicles to get back.
"You get a good deal because these cars have low mileage and are well maintained. You can play anything here. You can come back and send it anywhere in the world and let people know what you have and make a profit a little bit.” said Tony.
There will also be a variety of items up for auction. There are many office supplies, from computers and chairs to desks and filing cabinets. There are health supplies and storage, purification and cooling systems, furniture and sports equipment. You can even buy old flatbed wagons and golf carts.

To the untrained eye, this may look like junk food. But another experienced auctioneer named Quintin says you can get good value for many of these items if you know what to look for.
"I found an atom separator once. I couldn't sell it. It was full of mercury, so I had to donate it to the university. But you find all kinds of strange things here and wonderful things that you can sell. modern," said Quintin.
All vehicles and items auctioned are once owned by a government entity, whether the LVMPD, fire department, city of Las Vegas or Henderson, Clark County or the state of Nevada. All money from this auction goes to the entity to replenish the stock.
The big difference this year compared to previous years is that, for security reasons, all items will be auctioned online. You can bid on the item at this link. Gary and Kristy Thurman were visiting Denver when they learned that Mecum Auctions was also in town. He decided to pull over and, a few minutes after parking, entered to ride one of the Dodge Chargers or Challenger Hellcats that were swerving, fishtailing, and turning donuts in the gated section of the lot. .
Kristy Thurman, 50, exited her free passenger ride looking confused and amused. He waited outside the course until his wife's lap was over.
"You never know what's going to happen," said 52-year-old Gary Thurman. "And then all of a sudden you get this thrill for, what, 30 seconds? But it's kind of cool."
Gregory Prante from St. Louis, Missouri, however, is there to bid, because he has been on all but one of Mecum's trips since he started his own auto auction consulting business, FlagBoy Enterprises., three years ago.

Pante will buy as much as he can sell. Chris and Cara Larson are hoping to get away with just one thing: a vintage Corvette.
Cara Larson has dreamed of owning a Corvette since she fell in love with a red '68 Roadster at the House of Hardtops in Portland, Oregon, she said Monday.
Cash For Junk Cars Las Vegas, Nv: $100 $5,000+
In Vancouver, Washington, the couple scoured the floor for Corvette models between 1968 and 1974, hoping that at least one would fall in the price range of around $20,000 to $30,000. Cara Larson said she saw the red convertible up for auction on Friday ("I'm going to die for it") but noted she's worried it might be too expensive.
Chris Larson said the couple watched a Corvette sell for a price at another Mecum TV auction and decided to come to Las Vegas to hunt for a Corvette.
"And we are here and just in awe of all these cars. I mean, God," said Chris Larson.
And if they leave the auction empty-handed, they will be happy. The Mecum auction experience alone is worth the trip, Cara Larson said.
