However, large price increases, a lack of crab legs and the outbreak of the coronavirus have reduced supply and demand.

Today, only three of the 12 Coast casinos offer crab legs — Treasure Bay in Biloxi, Silver Slipper in Hancock County and Hollywood Casino Gulf Coast in Bay St.

Customers expect crab legs on every buffet, and Coast casino operators like Chett Harrison of Golden Nugget Casino Biloxi say the casinos are paying a price for keeping the popular seafood menu on the buffet.
That began to change in 2011, when Palace Casino CEO Keith Crosby temporarily pulled crab legs from the menu due to high costs and unreliable supplies.
In 2017, as the price of crab legs increased, a surcharge was added to some South Mississippi casino buffets. This kept the buffet prices down for those unwilling to splurge on crab legs and kept the seafood available for those willing to pay the higher price for plates or buckets of crab legs.
The price of the buffet at the IP Casino Resort in Biloxi is actually reduced to $24.99, so people who do not eat crab are not penalized for the high price. A bag of Dungeness or snow crab legs was an additional $5 per pound or $9 for two pounds.

In 2017, Crosby again removed crab legs from the Palace Casino buffet when the volume rate for crab legs rose from $5 per pound in May to $8.45 per pound in July, a nearly 70 percent increase in two months.
In 2019, the buffet at Hard Rock Casino Biloxi received a $2.3 million makeover, with new decor, a new menu, a bar added and the wall opened to offer views across the water to Deer Island.
A weekend crab leg brunch is priced at $21.99, including two complimentary mimosas or deluxe Bloody Marys, and customers may purchase a pound of crab legs to take home for an additional $6.
In The Kitchen With Boomtown Casino Buffet
Like all casinos and buffets, the Hard Rock Buffet closed in March 2020 at the start of the coronavirus outbreak.
Satisfaction Buffet has just opened and is currently only available one weekend per month. Crab legs are not on the buffet.
▪ In 2017, the weekend buffet at Hollywood Casino at St. Louie with Dungeness and Snow Crab Legs $27.99. Today, the weekend crab buffet is $49.99.
▪ In 2017, Treasure Bay Casino's crab buffet was $23.99 with a Player's Club card or $25.99 without. Now the crab buffet is $47.99, with discounts available for military and player card members. Customers must be 21 years of age or older.

▪ In 2017, Silver Slipper Casino's weekend crab egg buffet was $27.99 with a card and $29.95. It rose to $49.95 in 2021 and is the same price today. Customers must be 21 years of age or older.

The USDA's March food price report said that all food prices are expected to rise through the year.
It is expected that the cost of eating out will increase by 5.5% to 6.5% until the end of the year.
Some Biloxi Casinos Start Charging Extra For Those Who Want Crab Legs With Their Buffet
Grocery prices may rise by another 3% to 4%, the report said, so it may make economic sense to buy crab legs and cook them at home.
In some cases, it actually costs more. Snow crab legs on one website cost $23.99 per pound plus shipping, which costs an additional $42 midweek or $108 to get your order over the weekend. Dungeness crab legs are usually $5 more per pound and free shipping is available on bulk orders for those hosting a party or have the freezer space.

Mississippi Gulf Coast casino buffets aren't what they were before COVID-19, inflation and supply chain issues, but they're still a feast of seafood, steaks, sides and desserts that locals and visitors crave.
Five of the 12 Coast Casino buffets have not reopened after COVID-19 and probably won't. They are IP Casino Biloxi, Golden Nugget Casino Biloxi, Boomtown Biloxi, Scarlet Pearl Casino in Diberville and Harrah's Gulf Coast.
"We are currently evaluating what kind of platform and services we want to provide in this area in the future, but it will not be a buffet," said IP Casino Marketing Director Kim Goetz.

The Golden Nugget also has no plans to bring back a buffet, and general manager Chet Harrison said he is looking into how to use the space.

"We always knew there was a loss leader to get people in," he said, adding he's not sure the demand is still there after COVID-19. The Boomtown buffet remains closed, but the buffet is open at Penn National's sister casino Hollywood Casino at St. Louis. The buffet area at the Scarlet Pearl has been converted into a temporary under the Oak Cafe while renovations are made to the cafe space.
In October, Scarlet Pearl CEO Luann Pappas and Gulf Coast Harrah's General Manager Jonathan Jones said their buffet would not reopen. Both said they have plans to repurpose the valuable buffet space at their casinos.

Hard Rock Casino Biloxi Satisfaction Buffet recently reopened, but on a schedule for just one weekend a month. Upcoming buffet weekends are Fridays and Saturdays 12.-13. August and September 16-17. The buffet is open from 16-21. And is priced at $29.99 since there are no crab legs.
"The menu changes a little bit every month," said Sabrina Nastrini, director of advertising and entertainment. Diners choose their favorites at the carving station, where a chef picks up food and a number of Southern specialties such as boiled shrimp, fried chicken, catfish, jambalaya, gumbo and smoked sausage. The dinner buffet also offers a wok station, full side dishes and a selection of desserts. Brick oven pizza will be added to the selection starting in August.

Two of the crab-leg casinos—Treasure Bay Casino and Silver Slipper Casino—are open only to those 21 and older. Hollywood Casino at St. Louis is the only casino on the beach that has crab legs and allows children to eat at the buffet.
