Metal Siding For Commercial Buildings - Metal panels are often used in large commercial buildings, industrial buildings, garages, etc. Common types are aluminum, galvanized steel, zinc steel, stainless steel, copper, and alloys of various types of steel. They are produced in many sizes, thicknesses, shapes and sizes with a range of finishes and textures. Other finishes include vinyl plastisol, fluorocarbon, and silicone polyester.
The standard range of steel thickness is 12 - 29 gauge, with the top gauge being the thinnest material. Panels are usually 22-36 inches and 5-12' high. Standard thicknesses of aluminum panels are 0.024″, 0.032″, 0.040″ and 0.050″. Aluminum sheets are usually 35″ to 48-1/2″ wide and all lengths from 3’ to 30’. Different profiles are usually made in standing steel side panels, seam, trapezoidal, corrugated, ribbed, tubular and conical and reconstruction. Connectors can usually be hidden or exposed, they don't disappear, they have a fixed center point. Metal siding is often replaced and can also be used on a roof, but check with the manufacturer about this possibility and the tools and fittings needed for each. Commercial Siding: Why Fiber Cement Is Superior Compared To Other Materials
The metal side panels should be kept on both ends, not flat, and when installed they should be lifted from the body and not fall down. Before installing the panels, any non-capable equipment should be installed in the building. The first panel is usually started from the corner and should be straight and vertical as the rest of the panels follow its alignment. Panels are usually folded a few inches depending on the shape of the panel. Panels can usually be cut with metal scrapers, electric/pneumatic shears, profile shears, circular saws or electric nibblers.
A black carbide blade with a light metal should be used for circular saw cutting. Although a seal is required at each foot of the roof, it is less common for vertical steel wall panels because the water path to the joint is not horizontal. However, if the wall panels are to be installed vertically, grout lines or seals may be required. Wall panels must finish within +/- 6″ of grade. It is common practice to install several tools on each temporary support until all the tools are installed. Typical length is +/- 1-1/2″ (must go into wood at least 5/8″), usually self-tapping and neoprene machines/sealers are sometimes used. Circular cutters ('S' type hex head) are typically +/- 1″ and are used on a flat surface to align the sheet to the substrate. "Framing" wood screws (hex head) are often used in ribs/trims where panels are removed from the sheet. Seam screws (hex head) are used in ribs/trims where the panels are removed from the substrate but not fully inserted into the substrate. The measurements should not be excessive, as "fat canning" may result. Separating membrane should be used between different metals and between aluminum and treated wood. Determining which components and storage options to include in your steel building plan will add up to an interesting mix of practicality and appeal.
