On my recent trip to Las Vegas to see my favorite band, The Chicks, in concert, I decided to go to the Las Vegas side and book a room (well, a suite) at the Venetian. I had a few things going for my stay: a great pool, a great room at an affordable price and a central location that made it easy to get to other places. The Venetian checked all those boxes and more.

In Las Vegas, bigger is usually better - and the Venetian happens to be one of the biggest luxury hotels on the planet. Opened in 1999 on the site of the former historic Sands Hotel and Casino, today the facility has more than 7,000 rooms on three floors: including the main Venice Tower, the Venetian Secret Strip and the Palazzo. In all three towers, the lobby leans heavily on its Italianate theme from the image of St. Peter's. Overall I found the look of my luxury king suite on the 33rd floor to be comfortable and classic, if a bit dated in terms of style. Considering Vegas is a place where there is no proper rest, I was very thankful to have plenty of places to sit back and forth during my trip. One minor gripe I had during my three-night stay was that while my room had a view of the Strip, it was largely obscured by the small Venice tower below. Luckily, though, there was a direct view of my favorite spot in town, the Mirage, and the volcano that erupts every hour at dusk. My favorite part of the suite was the bathroom, which had a shower, a large soaking tub, a double vanity, a separate closet that hid the toilet, and a small TV in the corner. At 130 square meters, the bathroom was the perfect place to get ready for the evening - and even better for washing up the night before.

It is also worth noting that there are Club Level rooms, which give guests access to the Prestige Club Lounge. Prestige Club suites come with a special check-in area (and Las Vegas check-in lines can be brutal), prosecco on arrival, daily continental breakfast, afternoon tea and coffee, appetizers and evening cocktails, a dedicated gate and Much more.
Visiting Las Vegas in early May, I knew that drawing time at the pool was a must, and luckily the Venetian has two decks spread across five acres for guests to enjoy: the Venetian Pool Deck and The Palazzo Pool Deck. Recently the resort completely renovated the Venetian pool deck and its four pools by offering some beautiful Italian designs, renovating the cabanas and exchanging the old lounge chairs for new ones.
Although I wanted to keep the cabana with the plunge pool, I didn't want to spend more than $1,200 for the air conditioner, sofa and shade, even though it was nice. Instead, we decided to reserve the original space for the lounge chairs that we wanted to use for $50 per seat of digital storage space.
By morning, the pool was quiet and peaceful, and the drink service was quick (though expensive). I suggest you get there early when the pool opens so you can grab the seat you want, which for us was far from the large groups of seats in the corner that felt too close.

During the afternoon, however, the entire atmosphere of the pool had changed as all the seats were full, bachelorette parties were in full swing, and techno music was playing from hidden speakers throughout the area. It wasn't hectic, but don't expect to sit and read a book. To make things even crazier, the wall of the Tao Beach Club seemed to be right up against where I was sitting, leading to the noise of the party crowd and huge smoke machines in the later part of the day.
Anyway, I had a blast - people watching in the beautiful pool. What I didn't like was the heat of the sun that followed - don't put the Las Vegas sun down.
