There are a lot of cute things about the MacBook Pro 16, but one feature that stands out and really revolutionizes the battery life.

The Pro 16 battery lasts 22 hours and 32 minutes during our standard battery test, which uses macros to simulate web browsing in Google Chrome. So far, this is the longest-lasting laptop battery ever in all of our trials.
By comparison, Dell's XPS 17 (one of the largest Windows laptops available) managed just 6 hours and 43 minutes in the same test. Even Windows laptops designed for mobile, such as the Dell XPS 13 or 13-inch Microsoft Surface Pro X, last less than ten hours.
Longer battery life in practical use. Sometimes the battery runs out only a few percent after browsing the site for an hour. Using a laptop for a weekday of document editing and online research kept the battery power below 75 percent.
For many, it will be two or three days before Pro 16 ends. Those who used to charge the battery overnight will not see it drop to a critical level. Owners of demanding requirements (such as video editing or gaming) will want to try it out often. However, unlike the Windows alternative, Pro 16 does have the benefit of enduring in the most demanding applications.

The only downside is the size of the Pro 16. This is a large laptop that measures 14 inches wide and weighs about 5 pounds. Apple's 13-inch and 14-inch Pro models are more portable, but have smaller batteries that push battery life into low-end teens (depending on the model).
But it feels like a nitpick. Apple's MacBook Pro 16 surpasses the same Windows competition as three to four times longer on a single charge. This is a big win for Mac.
The MacBook Pro 16's battery life will feature even for the least amount of power, but that's not the model we've tested. Our Pro 16 is packed with an Apple M1 Max chip with 10 CPU cores and 32 GPU cores. It comes with 32GB of memory and a 1TB hard drive.
The Geekbench 5 benchmark, which tests raw processing power, pulled out a single-core score of 1777 and a multi-core score of 12791 - the best special numbers we have seen from a laptop processor to date. The Dell XPS 17 we tested with the Intel Core i7-11800H received a single-core score of 1564 and a multi-core score of 7999, and the MSI's GE76 Raider scored 1618 and 1618 with Intel's Core i9-11980H, respectively. Apple's M1 Max has a clear advantage in this test.

The M1 Max works well in other CPU Benchmarks including Cinebench, Basemark and Speedometer. The MSI GE76 Raider may lead the way in benchmark and accelerometer testing, but the Dell XPS 17 (and other Windows laptops) is slower.
Pro 16 excels in real-world software testing. The CPU presents the Blender BMW test suite in 3 minutes and 32 seconds, a task that takes the Dell XPS 17 four minutes and five seconds. With this in mind, some Windows laptops can beat the Pro 16 in this test. Asus, for example, the Asus ROG Strix G15 AMD Advantage Edition displays images in 3 minutes and 19 seconds.
The process of the process is only half the story. The M1 Max also has 32 GPU cores, double that of the 16 cores in Apple's base MacBook Pro 16. This is the highest GPU number of any Apple M1 chip.
Average 85 fps at 1080p and the most detailed. The Dell XPS 17 we tested with Nvidia's RTX 3060 is slower than two. It averages 80 fps in Total War and 59 fps in Tomb Raider.

However, other Windows laptops can match or overtake Pro 16 gaming. The MSI GE76 Raider packaged on Nvidia's RTX 3080 averages 100 fps in Warhammer and 119 fps in the Tomb Raider. Asus' ROG Strix G15 mates AMD's Radeon RX 6800M at 75 and 105 fps, respectively.
This is not all good news for the Mac, though. Civilization VI averages only 43 fps at 1080p and greatly improves frame rate with ultra-sharpening and sharpening graphics. This suggests that 3D functionality may still be useless in applications that have not been optimized for Apple's M1 Max.
However, the M1 Max is generally excellent. Its CPU and GPU performance are exceptional for the weight and size of the Pro 16. Windows laptops that do well are usually big and heavy animals. Dell's XPS 17, Pro 16's most direct Windows rival, could not continue.
Many large Windows laptops have OLED screens, but Apple uses a different approach for the MacBook Pro 16 (and MacBook Pro 14). It relies on mini-LEDs that use thousands of individual LEDs to illuminate the screen. They are divided into 2,554 areas that can be illuminated or dimmed independently. Apple calls it Liquid Retina XDR.

This provides less precision than OLED, where the brightness of each pixel is independent, but it is close enough to provide the same benefits. The result is rich images with believable shadows and stunning details.
It is also clear with a resolution of 3456 x 2234. That translates to 254 pixels per inch, an upgrade from the previous MacBook Pro model of about 220 pixels per inch. Windows competitors have an edge, though many have 4K OLED options.
The best feature of the Liquid Retina XDR screen is its HDR performance. The brightness is higher than in normal use, and according to Apple can be more than 1600 nits in HDR brightness, which adds a bright light to a small part of the screen, such as the rising sun or the field of stars.
My eyes say Apple's Liquid Retina XDR has more advantages than OLED and bright LED screens. Great HDR movies like Avengers: Endgame can do it.
