Senior Housing For 55 And Older - Renaissance Place, for Greenville residents 55 and older, has 57 units with a mix of one- and two-bedroom floor plans, with about half remaining available. The rent for one bedroom ranges from 631 to 771 dollars, while for two bedrooms it ranges from 752 to 921 dollars. Tenants must have an income of at least 2.5 times the monthly rent.
The market rent for an apartment with a similar floor plan in the Greenville area would be $1,218, according to Rent Cafe, an online apartment listing service that conducts real estate market research.

Tenants at Renaissance Place can use a Housing Choice Voucher to help pay their rent. The direct government subsidy forms part of the rent and goes to the property manager.

"There are a lot of places where, you know, people who have a voucher have trouble finding a landlord who will accept it," said Joseph Kass, development manager at Greenville-based NHE, Inc., one of the project's developers. "Especially in a nice new place like this, it's hard to get a landlord to take that voucher, so we're always happy to accept that."
Brian Brown, president and CEO of the Greenville Housing Fund, a nonprofit entity that works to create and preserve affordable housing, said vouchers are an essential tool for helping low-income seniors find affordable housing.
Project financing is made possible primarily through low-income housing tax credits, which are grants from state or local agencies in the form of tax credits that make an affordable housing project less expensive to finance. The Greenville Housing Trust also provided funding.
Housing officials believe Greenville needs to build 10,000 more units of affordable housing, meaning homes for people earning up to 80% of the area median income. The median income in Greenville County is approximately $60,000 per year, and 80% of that is

Apartments have washer and dryer hookups, as well as a shared laundry room if tenants don't have a washer and dryer to bring to their unit.
Renaissance Place is located on North Pleasantburg Drive across from Bob Jones University. Not on the Greenlinkbus line.
"There's a (bus stop) kind of Red Lobster, but it's a little difficult to navigate in reality," Kass said. "That's one thing we really want is for Greenlink to stop, and at some point they might."
